steering wheel wobble

Can anyone confirm my suspicions, When braking from high speed i get a wobble through the steering wheel, It's ok at low speed braking. I took both front wheels off today cleaned the callipers/pistons  and cleaned the ridge off the disks with grinder, Took the car out and it still wobbles when braking from high speed, Any idea's ?   I'm thinking warped disks..

Are you getting a pulsing brake pedal?

 

 If not then I'd be looking at the condition of the lower control arm bushes, tie rod ends, lower ball joint and top strut mount.  Check the rear suspension bushes & also the tightness of the front cross member & rear suspension carrier/fram

No pulsing through the brake pedal just the wobble /vibration through the steering wheel.

all the time, or is it speed related?

What about gentle and heavy braking?

It only occurs when heavy breaking, Slowing down from high speed, Normal braking at low speed is fine, That's why i was thinking warped brake disks but i don't know.

The reason i'm thinking warped discs is because i've noticed a lot of heat generated at the front brakes after a run, More than the rear ones, But i suppose that's normal, More braking on the front.

Yes, it is normal. The fronts do the majority of the braking.

If it was "warped discs" then generally it should be obvious under light braking and disappear when you brake harder.

Warped disks feel like a pulse under your foot.

 

What you can get are deposits on the face of the disk.

 

disk gets hot and some of the pad material bonds to the disk. What happens then is this contaminated area wears more slowly than the rest of the disk making a raised area and it gives this shimmy when you brake.

 

You can get the disk machined to take this off or you can just go out when it's quiet and drive like a total arse i.e. accelerate and brake really hard repeatedly. you want to get the brakes nice and hot to scrub out this debris.

 

I had Pagid pads on my VRS and it was prone to this but I was always able to sort it with the "driving like a tool" technique.
