  1. I had a painter in with a car in this style. Said that the car was not, registered, mot'd, taxed or insured. As long as you don't touch the system no one bothers you. Typically British, follow the rules and you get clobbered with the slightest infraction. Don't follow them at all and it's too much bother to catch you.
  2. Not had them from Asda that I can recall.
  3. definitely got a few of them round here
  4. Not done this one for a while (ownership order and sometimes having more than one at a time) 1989 Vauxhall Astra 1.3 Merit 1997 Vaxhall Astra 1.6 16v Arctic 2001 Ford Focus 1.9TD 2004 Renault Clio 1.5dCi (100hp) 1993 Kawasaki ZXR400 2007 Skoda Octavia VRS TFSI (and starting in these hallowed halls) 2010 Honda Accord 2.2d 2015 Mazda 3 2.2d 2016 BMW 335d 2013 Mini Clubman Cooper 2019 Mini Countryman JCW 2018 Ranger Rover Vogue V6d 2013 Mini Coupe JCW 2016 Suzuki Jimny 1.3 2016 Mazerati Quattroporte V6d The BMW 335d and the RR Vogue are probably the closest I've got to the perfect car to do everything. If the BMW was an estate with uprated M sport brakes I think it would have nailed it. I can see us going back to either of those cars in some way.
  5. Rowies or Butteries are type of bread traditionally from Aberdeen. They're very heavy on butter and salt originally to make them stay fresh a long time on the boats for the fishermen. The supermarket ones are rubbish. The real deal are more like a croisson type bread if heavier and salty. Bit crispy on the edges as well if you get a good one. Eaten with a bit more butter on top. Delicious but your heart won't thank you for them.
  6. Does look like a widely obvious shot trap but tanks possible it's accounted for in the expected tactics. Can't really get rid of the periscope since it's all too easy to disable camera systems and external optics. Just ask the T72 crew that were messed up by a Bradley. wonder how many
  7. We did a bit of research and found the same advice online. Buy a Panasonic. So we did. I think I've made a loaf every day since we got it, no bad ones so far. A rye loaf was particularly tasty. This one has a little door for adding things which will be fun to try. Takes about 10min tops to set it up to run with very little mess. The needing paddle thing has been no bother so far.
  8. they are famous for it, but I hope not.
  9. Some clear joy, We ordered a bread maker about 6 weeks ago. Who'd have thought there was a bread maker shortage. Arrived yesterday. Had a go last night, listened to it making odd noises in the evening and then we went to bed. This morning, lo... a pretty decent wholemeal loaf waiting on us. Quite pleased for a first attempt. And actually (bit sad I know) quite excited to try again.
  10. Proper butteries with the salt and lard crusted on the outside 😋
  11. It's quite likely ChatGPT was involved in the writing.
  12. I'd take that over the real one
  13. I think it's in here somewhere anyway, but as it's on Netflix.. Finished Top Gun - Maverick ther other night. I didn't want to like it, but darn it it is an excellent pop-corn film. Very much a homage to the first. As other have mentioned don't think too hard when watching it.
  14. Will speak to the traffic cops on Sunday
  15. So I have started moaning to the council and the local politicians. I've also flagged this again with Police Scotland. The council reponse is basically to shrug their shoulders, I suggested the limit should be lowered to 30mpg their answer was that if it goes lower no one will pay attention to it. Great argument I thought. We're had the pneumatic pipe system out before and that led to the VAS signs going in. The two weeks that was down gave a street record of 105mph in the 40. Obv I'm not happy with folk scudding past but worst of all we have no paths here and the local kids all have to walk on verges or the road to get to the bus and there are no crossings for them. All with cars doing 80+ quite regularly. I've signed up to volunteer with the local speedwatch and have my training on Sunday. I've not quite fugures out how to get the data off the pi yet, but one assumes setting up a file share should be easier than a AI images processing. But here is a cap of the top figures for the last 36hr. That table only has people doing 47+ (in a 40). The size of the scrollbar will give you an idea how bad it is. We're averaging 50+ some hours.
  16. Obiwan's old man was a sparky. There is something you won't learn in a DVD extra.
  17. So today I finally got my Rasperry Pi speed-camera running properly. I had a problem with it only logging speeds upto about 53mph (we're on a 40mph road so it's a problem that this is even a problem). Asked for a bit of help on teh forum I got the code from and it was a really simple (if you know it) tweak. Problem now is that I can actually see how fast some of these b£$£%£ds are going. It's only been logging properly for about 6 hours and I've got multiple cars going 75+ (one special little person I've got doing 74+ 3 times so far today in his black landcruiser). Speeds are averaging 45+ and we have VAS signs within 300m. For info system is calibrated on known values (i.e. me doing a GPS legal speed run). Todays champion so far @92mph in a 40 -
  18. Nooooo, they're not useless they're just waiting for their moment. (he says hiding SCSI and coax cables)
  19. I setup an AcePC mini PC for my son during lockdown. TBH it's run without a beat for about 4yr. Admittedly it is an underpowered celeron and I wouldn't want to use it evrey day but it's done the job for us and he still uses it for basic homework tasks. He's got an xbox for gaming. I think he'd probably be better of with a new Raspberry Pi, I think one of the newer models would do these basic tasks better and would probably be cheaper.
  20. Dunno if I've told this dull tale here or not. Shaun Keavney has a slot on his show called "small claims court" where you can make a dull not-quite claim to fame. I've always thought about telling mine... I've fixed Obi-Wan Kenobie's Dad's computer.
  21. I've been using web forums and predecessors since 1995. Nowhere is perfect but this is one of the tamest forums (forii?) around. You won't always get an answer to a query and you won't always get a gushingly friendly response to everything. I've not owned a Skoda for 10yr but still hang around here like a bad smell.
  22. Is it not standard fit on cars now? But only works below 20mph or something like that.
  23. I'm a bit of a cynic over these stories tbh. They never seem to lead to a recall or safety notice which implies nothing found. I'm sure with older petrol driven similar incidents it was fairly normally to see the driver get nicked later. Why was the Jag doing 90mph? If the throttle was stuck or a connection left open why 90? Top speed it limited to 124 but assuming there is a fault why would the limiter apply? Cynic talking - guy got caught doing 90 and rather than take the 4 points he's blaming the car for a bit of publicity too.
