Wheel Protection

Featured Replies

After getting my alloys back from powder coating, what is best to protect them for the foreseeable future?

I have read good things on here about carbon collective wheel protection, how easy to apply is it and how many 17" wheels would I do per bottle?

Also, I have a tub of poorboys sealant how much should I use for each wheel and how often does it need topping up (on average)

Gtechniq C5.

Could probably do two coats but you only really need one.

It's easy to apply the wheels need to be very very clean and panel wiped down before you apply.

I don't find poor boys that great probably needs applying every 4 weeks. Use a thin coat. Similar to applying wax.

CC Platinum

Very easy to apply

I applied two coats, as CC recommend, at least 2 hours apart

There was not a lot left after doing 4 x 18" wheels, twice

I recently bought (from bears) and used the cc platinum ceramic wheel seal, after recommendations here.  Instructions are easy to follow, only 'problem' was it's a clear liquid, and you are only using it sparingly, so (on gun metal grey wheels at least) it's difficult to see what's done and what's not/when you need a few more drops on your applicator pad.  I may have put it on a bit thin but after 2 coats, on a set of 18" wheels (borbet bs5) I had used half a bottle.   Since they are my winter wheels, which will only be on the car about 6 months a year, I hope even that possibly thin coat will work for 3 years.... We shall see.

Any how, I'd say get the cc platinum, and get it from bears.

Did you coat the inside of them too Neil?

A tip when applying is to have a light source on the wheels, when applying the coating glows & looks wet where it's been applied.

Have been thinking cc from bears, I have 9x 17" 4x winter whites and 5x anthracite summers might get 2 bottles and whatever is left will go on my mums as a very light coat :)

If you run out Stew...I have some

No, not with the cc platinum, I just used that for the front.  I gave the back of the spokes a couple of coats of a cheap spray on wheel protector from simoniz.  Once the tyres (and balance weights) are fitted I'll do the same to the inside of the rim.   Since the cc platinum is only on the front I hope it's a good coat.

I coated mine in the garage, standard strip lighting.... Possibly a bit to dull.... Definitely didn't notice any glow.

I used LED lights from my garage & you could see what was wet & what wasn't.
