Is it the standard 1.9TD or VRs model ? ... if the standard model they know what they are doing as the mpg is phenomonal. I have a 2004 1.9 TD Ambiente estate, and on a regular trip from N Wales to Newbury Berks. at 50/60mph on the A41, then 75/80 on A55/M6/M40/M42 and 60mph on A34, mine is consistently returning 55mpg, checked by  filling brim to brim and sat nav mileage and speed, as the onboard computer is a little optimistic and regularly shows 60mpg ...

Its a 1.9tdi with the red I, not vrs but I think its been remapped or had some work done cus its to fast to be standard, got it up to 75mpg on motorway runs but average about 55mpg, great compared to 25mpg in the celica, but work pay for diesel anyway so its win win lol

I wondered about mine as a bit swift for a standard 1.9 diesel when overtaking ect.  The MPG readout can be just a "little" optimistic... I have seen 140mpg but don't believe the lying little beggar ...    Actually now it is averaging about 8% over comparing brim to brim refills and accurate mileage readings, (not the trip), so I can now calculate from that over read if I am doing well ..... or not ...

 

My last motor was a Land Rover Discovery doing the trip South then back a fortnight later every month, 500 miles round trip @ 25mpg ... :(  and definitely not a company car...

Yeah, no history came with the car, work just said here's 2 grand, go and get a car from the garage forecourt over the road, tried the skoda and fell in love with it, we've always had decent powered sprots cars, mr2's etc and this is definitely more powerful
