Skoda dsg 6 gear problem

Featured Replies

Hi everyone.

I recently purchased a 2009 superb.

I loved the space and design of it.

However, I regret it allready due to gear box. When I start it sometimes it has no issues with the gears. But,sometimes it doesn't change the gears when you driving after first start or doesn't engage the reverse gear.

Funny and scary thing. When I stop and restart the car gear faults dissappear.

Please, anybody knows what is wrong with it?

Thanks.

Could it be a software issue ?

Welcome

The DSG box has a history of mechatronic failure (basically the gearbox ecu) get the car scanned with VCDS for fault codes and go from there, I will move this to a more suitable forum for you.

Thanks guys. I shall get it scanned on Monday.

19143/P2711/010001 - Unexpected / Implausible Mechanical Gear Disengagement: No Signal/Communication

Possible Symptoms

  • Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) ON
  • Transmission Malfunction
  • Erratic Driving Behavior

Possible Causes

  • Double Clutch worn/faulty
  • Worn/Damaged gear shaft(s)
  • Output Shaft Speed Sensor 1/2 (G501/G502) faulty
  • Mechatronic Unit for Double Clutch Transmission (J743) faulty

Possible Solutions

  • Check Output Shaft Speed Sensor 1/2 (G501/G502)
    • Check Measuring Value Blocks (MVB)
  • Check/Replace Double Clutch
  • Check/Replace Mechatronic Unit for Double Clutch Transmission (J743)

Special Notes

  • When found in 6-Speed Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG/02E):
    • Check Measuring Value Block (MVB) 008. The Output Shaft Speeds should align with the Input Shaft Speed during a Test Drive (Tiptronic in Gear 1/2) with the Clutch engaged.
    • According to Skoda TPI 2024152 an updated Clutch Set is available which addresses these issues.

How much £££ we are talking about?

IF it’s the mechatronic unit then they used to be around £1,500, but I believe they can now be repaired for a lot less (but still £hundreds)

It would be worth performing a basic setting as its free (just time hooked up to VCDS) and checking the Measuring Value Block for the Output Shaft Speed Sensor before spending loads of money on the Mechatronic,

I doubt they will be the cause of your troubles but you may be lucky.

Thanks.

Could anybody recommend me repairer? I live in East-Sussex. However, I can travel upto 50-60mile radius.

When you say recently purchased, how recent are you talking? Was it a private sale?

How many miles has the car done?

Phil

I believe that Ali at Unit 18 near Milton Keynes can now repair DSGs.

I bought it a month ago. It had 90kmiles. Now it has 90120 on the clock.

  • Author

If you have,Could you give us Ali's postcode? And phone number?

Unusual for the 6sp DSG to have issues. Has the gearbox had its oil and filter service? Should be in the history with the car. If not, an oil flush with new filter will definitely be of help you....

That said the information in Gizmo68's post is very useful and a 'reset' on those specs would be useful too.

Fingers crossed it's not a big issue for you....

: ))) . Oil change not done. Can my local garage do the resetting? Bless him,he doesn't get involved with dsg boxes.

Or shall I take it to specialist.

However, I heard that they charge quite a lot for labour.

Where did you buy it from?

  • Author

I bought it on eBay. The seller is a dealer. But,he doesn't answer my calls or emails.

I reported him to eBay. However,I was stupid to pay him cash, rather then PayPal.

EBay told me they will contact him to help me out. But,cause I paid cash. They cannot do much apparently.

İtme no: 331538833235.

And the seller is:

I think you took a bit of a risk buying that TBH.

No record of the gearbox oil being changed (should have had 2 changes by now as they're every 40k miles) and also he doesn't know about the cambelt so you need to check change that as it's overdue.

Did you read this answer to one of his questions;

Yes, but I've been out on the beer tonight and feel a bit ****ed, can you ask again tmrw ?

I'd have stayed well clear.

If he's not answering texts or emails then you may need to write a letter, send it recorded delivery and threaten legal action under the sale of goods act.

Good luck.

Phil

I was willing to spend on it. But not on gear box : (((. Maybe my last automatic experience, or I will gain very big experience.

I took his answer as a genuine answer.

I will do that.

Thanks for advice.

If anybody knows good dsg problem solver. Please write me their contact details

RESERVE IS SET TO SELL,I AM HAPPY TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS EXCEPT RESERVE PRICE,GOOD LUCK BIDDING.

Also, when he mentioned 4 stamps, I thought it is serviced properly. Upto 50/600 miles.

Also,he said no rattles on gear box.

There may not have been any rattles and the gearbox may have been working fine when he was selling it but obviously it's developed afterwards.

There's no way to prove that the car had the oil and filter done on the gearbox so you have to assume it has missed 2 of these oil and filter changes now. That may have led to a failure.

Either way he does have a responsibility to fix/pay for a fix.

Whether or not you will get anywhere without having to take some legal action though I don't know...

Thanks again.

I shall send him a letter tomorrow.

I will post updates.

I would turn up on his forecourt and ask him what he is going to do about the gearbox problem.

The seller needs to pay to have this fixed since he's a car dealer and is required by law for a limited period after selling the car.

Send letter RECORDED delivery.

Then get small claims and trading standards involved. Sorted.
