Mk1 VRS Intermittent power steering light coming on

Featured Replies

Hi, I've got a problem with my Mk1 VRS. After about 10-20 minutes the power steering warning light comes on, don't loose power steering at all seems to drive as normal. Ignition cycle it and it goes off for another 10-20 minutes of driving. Had a new steering rack a few months back but had no problems till yesterday. Any help appreciated. Will be getting codes read today hopefully. Thanks.

steering angle sensor maybe. Try full lock to the left and hold for 10 secs then immediately full lock to the right for 10 secs and see if that helps.

But of a update. Just took it out to try and get the light to come back on, drove about 20 miles and didn't come up, but nearly got home and went round a tight roundabout and light come on. Wouldn't go out with turning lock to lock. Thinking the angle sensor may be at fault. Will be looking further into it asap.

Was a fault stored related to the alternator charging rate. Guy at my work knew exactly what the fault was from that point. Noticed there was no battery light on the dash. Turns out there were 2 broken wires down next to the power steering pump that were causing the intermittent steering light to come on. Also the intermittent traction control light (which I never thought would be related due to the traction control light coming on since I got the car a few months ago and the steering light only just come on since the weekend). Ended up just cutting the connectors off and hard wiring them instead. All sorted now though. Nice cheap fix!
