intermittent loss of power steering - 60 plate vrs Octavia

Featured Replies

Hi I have a 60 plate vrs Octavia and had it since September its got aa warrenty it has bin in to the garage as when I come to a t junction I some times do not have any power steering to pull off. I was resently towing and was part way round and island and lost power steering witch scared me so I booked it in to be cheched and the garage say due to it not showing on the disnoctics machine and it only being an intermittent fault there is nothing they can do they have cleaned the connection because its an electric system not hydrolic but it did it twice on the way home from the garage and now there not interested until it no longer works and there is something to fix can any one help me. Thanks kim

It could be a faulty battery as the steering system uses a lot of electrical power, might be worth getting the battery tested. When the steering failed did any warning lights illuminate on the dash?

I think its the electric steering rack on its way out. Pls scan the car and post a report. Octy II is known to have electric steering rack issues.

No warning light or anything appear on the dash and it was only plugged into with a diagnostics machine yesterday and they say it's clean no codes show up

Had a similar problem with a Fabia.

Turned out to be an intermittant broken wire on the loom to the rack......

I was going to suggest checking the connections related to the power steering for corrosion & also the strength of the battery.

It's not a quick fix and needs someone with patience & an ohm meter.
