vRS and ramps

Featured Replies

I'm looking to get a set of cheapy ramps for working on the car. I have some axle stands but seems pretty hard to get a position where you can jack and use the stands without resorting to jacking on the sills which I want to avoid.

However, since the front overhang is pretty big and the bumper sits pretty low, is clearance an issue and does anyone have any recommendations for ones that are known to be fine? Standard ride height and I don't plan on changing that any time soon.

You can get the extenders off ebay quite reasonable money to reduce the gradient on ramps, or use planks of wood...

Have you done the jacking points mod? Got mine from Awesome gti, takes the pressure off using sills all the time. I think standard height should be fine on ramps but I'm not %100 will find out myself soon will be getting some next month.

Ramps and a couple of small planks works for me

Deffo need some planks of wood, its much better to do oil changes or doing the sump with the ramps.

I was considering doing that mod for quite a while, but everything i've read says those are for proper 4 post lifts and you'll still damage things if you jack there... or is that wrong? Would be the sensible option :D

Thanks for input all. Will see what I can source without too much outlay with some extenders or else will find some of this much vaunted 'wood' :)

Be honest they're ok but I'll be happier when I get ramps and stands so I then only have to use those points to lift the car initially rather than leaving the car on to work on corners. My sills were already folded at the front, just had enough to go on but were getting worse so this was just a solution to take the pressure off until I've got all the proper stuff. Some have got a hockey puck and cut a groove in it to rest on the sill and trolley jack that, a neat solution as long as you've still got some sill to go on...
