Parts compatibility.

Featured Replies

Hey guys.

So i am having a few issues with my ASR light coming on after driving about 1 mile. It will go away after restarting hte car 2 times and then come back on again after another short drive. After trawling these forums I am suspecting it may be my MAF sensor.

My question is. Would a MAF sensor from a 2002 1.4 Octavia fit on a 2002 1.6 Octavia? I can get hold of one for very cheap just to try out but I don't want to be putting it in if its not compatible.

Should unplugging a MAF have any affect on the idle or the way the car drives? My car idles at around 900 RPM with the MAF in and exactly the same with it unplugged.

Also would there be any boards members around Kildare, Ireland with access to a VAGCOM?

Cheers.

of course it will not fit,and yes if you umplug the maf the engine must idle different

Howya. Im pretty sure theres a couple of irish guys with vagcom knocking around, unfortunately im not one of them :(

Theres a map/list somewhere with members though so check it out.

need an engine specific maf, but if unplugging makes no difference to idle then its most likely fecked. In which case a trip to a skoda dealers is in order - as many have learned mafs, thermostats, coolent temp sensors etc are available on cheap pattern parts lists but vag engimes dont like em - go genuine or be prepared to buy many ebay jobbies ;)

Euro car parts sell Bosch, had a decent price on them for my car recently, not sure about yours though.

Don't buy the Bosch from Euro, it's NOT the same as the one from a dealer/TPS as many have found out to their cost.

I had a look at my MAF and its made by Hitachi but it has the VW and Audi logo's stamped on it. Would it be better to try find the Hitatchi version over the Bosch?

Oh right, thanks for the warning, figured Bosch would be alright, what's the score there then?

its best to go to a dealer and ask them to order it for you. As said you can get none dealer alternatives but they be gack. Many last less than 6months and your back to square one... worth paying a little extra the first time rather forking out a few times and endimg up in the same place. Theres a chance someone alreadt has done thst if theres a not bosch maf in the car? Someone might confirm that but prety sure all vag mafs are bosch but higher quality via dealer than aftermarket..

I'm not 100% sure to be totally honest, Nikki from R-Tech (one of the very best 1.8T engine tuners around) was telling me about it when I had my VRS remapped.

The live logging basically told him I needed a new MAF (I had no idea, car seemed to run fine etc) as the figures he was getting weren't correct.

I mentioned that I'd pick up a Bosch (OEM) from ECP as I live right around the corner from one and he said they're not the same. He's mapped thousands and there's a big difference between the Bosch ones from VAG/TPS and ECP. Apparently the ECP ones are still a pattern part even though they're Bosch branded.

Nikki does know his onions, perhaps that's why ECP are also able to offer them at such reduced prices?  I also noticed a lot of the oem ones ECP flog on ebay are 'remanufactured', don't think I'd trust that.  I have actually run pattern part MAF with no problems (think I'm one of the few) in my old Toledo V5 and in this car, however for peace of mind it's no longer a risk I'm looking to take.
