Panic over diesel - any evidence for this?

Featured Replies

90% of everything produced in the world will at some point need to be on a merchant ship, but then it does not necessarily need to bee shifted by a vehicle burning dirty diesel. The ship operators try doing things as cheaper as possible, other haulage just keeps doing the same old thing.

It's niether here nor there but you get more pettol than diesel from same oil. Mpg in diesel is better for equivalents but not double. And that's only part of the issue, the issue with diesels are more to do with older engines but it's the ratio of NO2 and particulate matter rather than the CO2

Exactly.

Governments are going to miss pollution targets by quite a margin. There's also the current research on the damage done to people breathing on all that NO2 which is also carcinogenic.

Yes HGVs account for a huge proportion, but diesel is really the only cost effective fuel for them unless you want vastly inflated prices in the supermarket.

It's all down to pollution though. When you think pollution causes more premature deaths than obesity, cancer, and road deaths combined, it's no wonder they want rid of them!

I'm not sure that's correct. Having checked the World Health Organisation reports for 2012, there were 7 million deaths attributed to air pollution (of which nearly 6 million were south east asian and western pacific regions), and 8 million deaths attributed to cancer alone, without factoring in obesity and road deaths.

screw you lot :finger: I'm growing my own bio-diesel :D

It's something that is in their power to reduce and something that does need addressed quickly. The best way forward is a debate though

You can be sure we'll see some additional duty on diesel at least and possibly more VED.

Conservatives are in office now and they may not wish to be seen to be kowtowing to the EU to the determent of it's own businesses.

'Mondeo Man' is almost certainly a derv driver.

So my guess would be a bit of extra tax in the short term but who knows in the longer term.

Thankfully our lot a) havnt cottoned on to goings on or at least arent talking about it.

and b ) know that any hope they have in the gen election thats reqd in the next number of months will be battered if they increase road tax or fuel duties or vrt rates etc. They are hated as it is, so anything that costs the populace is going to see them screwed...

on an environment standing, all polution needs to be reduced but zeroing in on the gen pop to carry the can when heavy industry is a waaay bigger player over all is the easy way out as usual - the ship graveyards of Bangladesh are among the most polluted horrid ****ridden places on earth and yet as it cuts cost for disposal of life expirdd tankers and cruise liners as wel as moving the eco impact else where noone in the "west" or industrialised world is going to say stop, well do it properly..
