Checking coolant level

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Which is the correct way to check the coolant level? When the engine is cold or when it is hot?

I've replaced two radiator hoses and the expansion tank today and filled up the installation up to the max point. After 10miles, with the engine properly warmed (35 Celsius degrees outside, both engine coolers running), the level was about 2-3cm above that sign. Is it just normal liquid dilatation or should I let it drop a bit?

Please don't mind my stupid question...

Should be checked cold.

It will rise when the engine is warm :)

Yeah, at max mark when engine is cold is fine.

Oh, ok, cool. My old expansion tank was so dirty on the inside that I couldn't really check the level..thank you!
