can anyone shed any light, the bonnet and boot skoda badges on my 52 plate octy vRS are a dull blue/green rather than the bright green i have seen on other cars. is this normal???

We had a similar situation when we bought our old Fabia. The dealer replaced the badges front and rear with new ones under warranty as they had suffered from water ingress.

You can get new ones from dealers or on-line from various Ebay sellers or maybe jhmbuttco.com.
