Excessive Oil Consumption (as seen on Watchdog)

Featured Replies

I've not seen any comment about excessive oil consumption in 2l petrol Skodas. The BBC Watchdog programme revealed the problem of ~1l per 1000 mile was caused by defective Audi pistons and rings over a two year span.

I imagined the engines were the same design- so are Skodas different?.

My old Ford Popular 100E  did 30 miles per pint before I replaced the broken piston rings- the smoke screen was worthy of James Bond.

Skodas had the same issues as did Golfs / Passats with the 2.0 TFSI.

EA888 2.0TSI doesn't seem as bad but does have the timing chain tensioner issue.  Many say it's how they are run-in (partially true IMO) but I also think it's a bit of a lucky dip.

That's pretty much it. If you were unlucky you could get a TFSI that liked a drink, although I've never seen one with a thirst like the A5 on Watchdog .

Mine used about 1l every 5000 miles which seemed to be about average. I serviced annually so that wasn't a big deal. I never noticed any real change in consumption from to new to 80k when I traded it in.

Well done Watchdog, lets see some even better support in the future! As you never took up the case of the Fabia vRS mk2 with similar oil consumption / engine damage issues.

Sure there are still many owners, that were out of pocket ,due to this Engineering design fault and lack of Manufactures honesty and Customer support..

Even Watchdog found that it was like pulling teeth with Audi.

Maybe you have not seen any comments on Oil Consumption of the 2.0 litre TSI / TFSI engines,

maybe you missed them.

Have a look at the failures of these engines there are enough comments on that in threads including on this forum, and you might see the symptoms that were there prior to the failures.

As for the 1.4 TSI / TFSI Twincharger Failures and Issues,

here are some compiled by REVO, because the Volkswagen Group never bothered to.
