I was investigating behind the panel to see if I could get to the crucial pins for cruise control. Like a mug I've slightly cracked my dial plastic front screen.

Any ideas how to replace or cover up on the cheap?

The screen complete with surround just unclips from the cluster. You could get a used cluster off ebay and use the screen from it. Or perhaps steveopc might have a cluster?

Ah great, that would give me a chance to remove my insect driving buddy.

Does it literally snap off? Can I remove the cluster without any negative effects on the car?

Probably best to have the battery off I suppose.

Taking the cluster out of the dash is a doddle and won't affect the car at all. I did mine the other day. Just two torx screws at the bottom of the cluster and the cluster pulls out from the top. Then disconnect the plugs behind it. You will probably need to use the adjustment lever for the steering column to move the steering wheel out of the way. Once the cluster is out there are clips all around it that you release to get the screen part off.  I didn't even remove the battery when I did mine.

I got mine replaced under warranty not sure how old your car is though!

I don't think my car is under warranty. It was registered 11 years ago. Haha.

Yea I did get the cluster 'out',I just didn't disconnect it. Good that I can unplug it.

Note that the plug on the right hand side has a sort of locking lever that has to be moved to release the plug.

Don't change the whole cluster by the way or your car won't run as they are coded to the car. Just fit the screen/surround part to your original cluster.
