Removal of drivers side drive shaft

Featured Replies

Can anyone tell me what size splined socket i need to remove nut and what size splined bit i need to remove drive shaft from gearbox. I need to replace the EGR believe need to drop shaft to get access ???

Thanks

If you only want to move the shaft a bit, you can just undo the splines at the gearbox end of the shaft and drop/raise it as necessary. You may need to shove the engine a bit to get it off, but IIRC there is only a small lip that seats the shaft on the gearbox. BTW you can probably only do this on the drivers side as the shaft is much longer than the passenger side shaft.

I think it's a M14 spline, but I could be wrong.

No worries did get it removed  in an attempt to replace the EGR valve but no matter what i did could not get the DPF off the turbo so unable to locate the top mount for the EGR valve.I have all but given up and will have to book it into a skoda garage and get it replaced for the kings ransom

Has anyone on this forum replaced the EGR  without the aid of a lift.

The DPF has to come off. On the floor this is going to be tricky.

The DPF is held on by the clamp on the turbo, a 13mm bolt up top and the lower bolts onto the subframe.

I did manage to get the clamp screw loose but the clamp itself would not seperate from the turbo and the DPF. I did remove the 13 mm bolt at the top and the bottom  bracket  just could not break the seal between turbo and DPF.  A shame was nearly there but have but all give up on it as very tough doing it on the ground.

You normally need to peel the clamp back with a screw driver and tap the joint with a hammer. Then falls off, still got to get it out though which normally means removing the centre section of the subframe.

I normally fit the EGR coolers with the dpf still on.. just loosen the DPF clamp + remove the top 13mm and bottom 2 13mm's then pry bar it from the bottom and it twists enough to get the cooler off + replace the egr pipes if required. You can do it with the driveshaft still in aswell its just abit tighter.. theres 2 dif types of cooler.. the earlier cylinder type and the newer rectangular type. If its a newer type then u shud be ok without the shaft out
