Featured Replies

Hello,

I've got an Orange SPV M500 Mobile/PDA combined thing, I understand I can get a sat nav program for it.....

Any advice on what I need, which program etc??? Anyone have the same phone as me running a satnav program??

Have seen PDA Satnav stuff on ebay for like

I'm not really familiar with the latest SPVs, but they run Windows Mobile OS don't they?

If so, you would be able to run TomTom Mobile 5 on it. As far as receivers go, I use a TomTom Bluetooth GPS receiver (v1, they brought out an updated one when v5 was released). I think it's very good and would recommend this route, as wiring is obviously kept to a minimum. Personally I think the battery life's good on it too - about 8/9 hours. It came with a lighter charger anyway, so no problems if I do run out of juice.

Don't *think* you can use the RA2 GPS receiver for anything else....

I'd avoid any of the

Don't know your phone but if it runs Windows PPC then you need Tom Tom Navigator 5 (TT5). If it is a smartphone then you need Tom Tom Mobile.

The software on ebay that is cheap is all pirated. It will (usually) work but if anything goes wrong you are stuffed, and you also can't get add-ons or upgrades from Tom Tom.

For further info look at the forums on www.pocketgpsworld.com. That is also the best site to download all the camera positions, which you can get free. They update the database monthly. However if you want to use the camera database it is only written for the more popular software - such as Tom Tom.

You can run TomTom Mobile on the SPV C500 rather well with a bluetooth GPS receiver. The BT GPS Receivers are really coming down in price on ebay too. You wont be able to use the RA I'm afraid, and on medium to long journeys you'll need to plug the phone in to charge (get a double lighter socket adapter thing) as the app and bluetooth will drain the power like nobodys business!

Thanks for the replies! My Phone runs Windows Mobile OS, Where can I get Tom Tom 5 from at a reasonable price???

Don't fancy pirate stuff!

The two at the bottom of THIS eBay search, or check Global Positioning Systems' website.

EDIT: Or Expansys , I've had good service from them over the years, a little more expensive than GPS' website, when you factor in delivery

HTH,

Steve
