Steering wheel swap - will it fit?

Featured Replies

Hi. Does anyone know if it would be a straight swap to replace the steering wheel and airbag on my 2004 mk1 octavia Tdi with one from a 1998 A4 SE? I've tried to add images of each without luck - always get 'not allowed to use that image extension....'

Haven't looked but if the Audi is a Mk1 and so is your Octy they're a straight swap. Same goes for Golf, Leon, Bora, Fabia, A3 etc from the same era.

I can't confirm 100% on the airbag if you're swapping a three spoke wheel for a four spoke (or vice versa) but I don't see why it'd be a problem.

Thanks Girardi. Yes both mk1 and both four spoke. I was suspecting they might be as our 1998 A3 Tsport also has the same steering wheel as the A4. The Audi and Skoda airbags look slightly different but not a problem putting the Audi airbag as well as the steering wheel on the skoda. Assuming the airbag connections are fairly simple I can join a few wires if needed!

Airbag should be easy as pie - it's a little yellow multiplug that unclips when you have the airbag off and should be the same across both. Mine's identical to the wife's Leon, checked last night :)

Thanks again - should get around to it sometime! From other threads it looks like I need an M8 spline bit to remove the wheels.

Finally got around to it - yes easy job. Audi airbag attached to the wheel by two T27 screws, skoda by two spring clips - both airbags use the same connectors. The steering wheels have the same fit with an M12 spline bolt.
