Really like the idea of the number plate behind the mesh!

My brakes are finally being fitted on monday :D

Cheers mate. Another reason for putting it there is the old plate blew off. If this one comes off it can't go anywhere other than sit inside the bumper. Plus it doesn't interfere with restricting the intercooler flow.

I was meaning to message you back about them. You'll have to let me know what there like. I've gone from the standard 288 cheese brakes to 6 pots so missed the 312 upgrade.

Fitted the mesh to my new bumper today, once the cars back from unit 18 I'll swap the front end. I cut the mesh to the correct size and gave it a bit so I attach it to the bumper. Folded the botto

Finally after months I finally fitted my bumper, along with some new head lights. Brought the car into the work shop and removed the bumper and lights. Then decided to compare the two, new ones o

Due to the amount of rain we've had lately I've noticed the rear carpets became a bit damp so this afternoon I spent 30 minutes resealing them up.

Wedged the door card open with a old charger cable as my girlfriend has no string in the house

20819003458_1ced627f48_c.jpg

As you can see the old silicone has started to come away

20818833960_9595251d4c_c.jpg

So sealed up with new silicone and all new clips

Not the neatest job but hopefully it will be ok, only time Will tell.

And the obligatory front shot

20385876743_2893f8bf5b_c.jpg

Rear door leak is such an easy job but I took the cable out for the door handle and forgot to put it back! Still haven't fixed it and it's been months now haha

My doors are leaking again so I'm going down the aluminium foil root, bought a roll off e bay.

Never heard of that method before. On my other fabia I resealed the doors 5 years ago and that's still dry. Hopefully this last just as long lol.

With myself books for snetterton in November I need to get some decent tyres. In the mood for sport contacts 5 but open to suggestions.

Been a whole since my last update.

A few weeks agod the car was over boosting to 31psi when it normally spikes at 27/28 then holds steady at 25/26psi. The other issue I was getting was on idle it was reading flutuating 0 to -2 psi and when pulling away it dropped to -4.

So I took the pipe coming off the turbo to the intercooler off and found this.

So I'll be ordering a new one from darkside, but when I refitted it everything went back to normal....for a few days, until I full throttled off a roundabout and pop, whoosh bang bang bang and more whoosh. You get the picture lol.

So at work I jacked the car had had a look

21220073344_1c10607519_b.jpg

The turbo end of the silicone bend and popped out the housing completely. It was a tight fit when I refitted it. A bit of heat and it went it a lot easier

21655964909_7a10de5168_b.jpg

and working fine now. Waiting until payday for a new pipe. And I also have the official car mascot.....BEAST

Today's been a bad day, Mr policeman didn't like my number plate so gave me a £100 fine, I know I was blatantly pushing my luck with it lol.

So when I got home I dug out some aluminium c channel, cut it into 2 sections and drilled a hole right through it using a bench drill.

22073003515_f07c60b76c_b.jpg

Marked up my number plate and drilled two pilot hole's. The two lines is where the aluminium plate is going. After the holes were drilled I used double side sticky pads to secure the number plate and aluminium plate together and drilled through and then used a 6mm bit.

21884815850_9f56a9a380_b.jpg

Nexted up was to drill and tap a 6mm hole in the crash bar and fit the brackets.

21885116818_39f6cf7e4e_b.jpg

And the bolt the plate to that.

22073003805_04671b7f25_b.jpg

it looks so big. The good thing is I can unbolt the plate for track days. I may get a slightly smaller plate in the near future.

My tyres turned up the other day

22390570358_3d55d5739c_b.jpg

Random picture of them being fitted

22416222649_ca4564a287_b.jpg

and recently I've noticed a loud vibration after I've booted it for a while. Sounds like it it was coming from the near side passenger door. Decided not investigate and quickly realised it was the exhaust tip hitting the heat shield.

Used some tin snips to cut either side of the pipe and bent it out the way.

This car just looks so right on the 17" Spiders.

Keep up the good work

This car just looks so right on the 17" Spiders.

Deffo :)

Should have been standard imo on the SE,along with lowered suspension ;)

Would have made them more of a special edition then.

Car looks well mate.

Didn't know you still had the Gee plate on.

Looking forward to Monday!

Cheers guys, the car was pretty much perfect thanks to the previous owner. I'm just trying to maintain it and put my own stamp on it.

Cheers mate. Gee decided to let it stay on the car.

Should be fun on track...I hope lol.

Unlucky about the fine. It's odd though as running no front plate at all is a £60 fine

I thought that but I suppose I chose to run an illegal plate where as not having a plate could mean it might have fallen off while driving, which actually happened to me.

So snetterton was a mixed day.

Good points

+ the engine, diff, suspension and new tyres all worked well on track.

+ met some great forum members, friendly and helpful.

+ saw some of the awesome builds I've followed for sale years.

Bad points

- had a spin and damaged the front bumper and fog light

- after a few laps I was getting some awful vibration/rotation noise from the front left.

The noise was quite worrying and only appeared after heavy braking and left turns after 1 hard lap. so me and my mate took the brake apart and found 2 pistons were sticking, cleaned and lubed that up, 2 further laps the noise was back again. Checked the brakes again, they were still sliding fine.

So it must be wheel bearing, forum memeber Taylor jumped in the car to and said he thought that's what it was and said GEE had the same noise at brands hatch especially going down paddock hill bend.

After a few more laps I retired the car and drove to unit 18 as it was booked in for today anyway.

After explaining the symptoms to alister he seemed to think it could be thermal expansion of the brakes. Coupled with hard cornering it means the wheels and suspension components can flex by a mill or so and can cause rubbing. And it takes a while for them to settle again, hence why the noise carried on down the straights for a bit.

This afternoon alister emailed me saying the disc is rubbing caused by the thermal expansion and said this isn't the first time he's come across it on big brake kits and will need shimming.

Also going to get a quote for the bumper by the body shop next door so I may have a perfect car by Saturday lol

Another plus point. On the way up there the mpg read out was saying 68mpg. Filled up before track time started and worked out I was getting 72mpg. Seem like people who say the blt trip always over reads are wrong lol.

Snetterton to unit 18 was definitely not 72mpg though.....lol.

  • Author

Not sure if anyones read the previous owners thread on this car. But he had alot of issues a certain garage. Unit 18 has found a few more issues from what I can only think are from them.

I shall try and update this post later tonight.

Plus point getting the car tomorrow and then the hunt is on for a new bumper.

Edited by stevobeavo

Oh, let me know what other issues they found

Oh dear, interested to see what has been found!
