Hi, i seem to have a strange tapping sound coming from the engine it starts at motorway speed and seems to tap worse as i accelerate anyone had this before / know what it could be? 

Check the oil before anything els.

What engine do you have?

What mileage has the car done.

its an ASZ engine, the oil is fine i checked it a couple of days ago and it was just under max the car is on 94k and its a 2004

and even with that guide i wouldnt wanna try it myself im not very mechanically minded lol

Are you sure its the engine? Have you tried the same speed in a different gear. I would have thought the engine would tap all the time. Could be a rotational issue.

You anywhere near Croydon, I can scan it for any fault codes.

Possibly a hydronic tappet gone down.

Could be a gearbox bearing worn out, when my 3rd(!) gearbox went it rattled like crazy when under acceleration

its defo engine its usually when im in 5th from around 60 mph on wards when i accelerate the tapping gets faster, when i stay at a consistent speed it stops to some degree. if its a tappet is this an expensive repair?
