Octy vRS Alarm?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Just picked up an '03 Octy vRS and was wondering if they have an alarm as standard? I know it has got remote central locking and an immobiliser.

I'm hoping for an answer that doesn't involve me finding a remote part of the countryside and trying to set it off :)

If it doesn't have one what type seems to have the biggest effect on insurance premiums?

Cheers

It doesnt have one as standard.

Not having one will not make the insurance go up as premiums will be based on a standard non-alarmed car.

The upgrade that springs to mind is a cat2 to cat1 upgrade. The car has cat 2 security as standard. I had the Skoda accesory cat 2 ->1 (scorpion)upgrade fitted (

as above on the standard system.

i went for a Sigma cat 1 upgrade system on mine think it was the M32, the system is used on all the Police Octavia's and Subaru use them in the Impreza from the factory.

it uses the standard Skoda keyfob to arm / disarm the system incorporating the factory central locking.

you get a keypad with the system as well that can be used to prgram extra options into the alarm. things like anti hijacked locking come as standard and can be activated. i dont use this though cause its not a problem for me to use the button on the drivers door console.

Thanks for the info everyone.

Nigel, don't suppose you can remember how much it cost to get your alarm fitted? I'd definately be looking to keep the Skoda key fob as I've already got more than enough stuff on my key ring.

Also, is this the sort of thing I should get fitted at a dealer or an independant specialist?

I've got a Cat1 clifford G5 on my RS. Hasn't made a difference to my insurance premium (although I'm sure most insurance companies do offer discount).
