Remap Questions?

Featured Replies

Ive just taken delivery of a furby vrs and am looking into getting it remapped. I understand that the custom code remap is a generic remap where as Jabba's is a custom remap but i was wanting to know what you guys thought of the two. Anyway my questions are as follows:

1. What is the best remap to go for?

2. What increases in BHP/torque have been obtained from the various remaps?

My car has a RICA custom remap. I am the only person on this site I believe with the remap. There are plenty of Dub owners out there with the software though.

My car is very quick since the remap, knocking 3 seconds off 0-60 and achieving a very impressive 1/4 mile time - it also smokes no more than the standard car - and far less than my friends REVO tuned car.

The power is 158 hp at the wheels and the torque comes in nice and smooth peaking at around 300lb/ft.

I think custom-code is 2 stages, you can get a generic setup for the car, or stage 2 is to tweak it based on any mods you have fitted. For a standard car, a generic map will probably be more than adequate :D

1. There is no best ... how much do you want to pay, do you mind smokiness, where do you want to see improvements, can you afford a new clutch? ;)

2. Not all about peak figures. The "best" remap is the one which has the biggest area under the rolling road plot :D

I'm not to bothered about the cost as long as I am getting the best available for the car. I don't want a map that will put to much strain on the standard clutch, etc. My problem is that there are so many companies offering products wich they claim to be the same but there is often a large variation in the price ie Angel tuning

Also worth considering that there are basically 2 types of remap.

Type 1: A preset map is loaded into your ECU, these are great for standard cars and you can be sure the tuner has put a fair but of work into getting the best combination of power and torque. The AMD one-click is an example of this, there are many more but none spring to mind

Type 2: Custom remap. These are best for a car that has already had modifications as the map is tailored to your car and how you expect to drive the car. You can also specify if you'd like more/less torque or whatever. These maps take time on a rolling road so naturally cost more.

There is plenty of first-hand experience recorded here by members which should help you make up your own mind.

Please note too that with the price reduction this remap would be

There are 2 or 3 good companies around & by trawling the threads here you will soon work out who they are, if you want the best get a custom map, they tend to give a bit more performance & can also be tailored to any specific requirements you might have.

Also look at geographic location as you dont want to travel too far to get it tweaked later. Having said that Both our cars have been mapped by Jabba who are a 3 hour drive each way. I chose them because they had a good reputation, were polite & friendly & after the results on the first car it was an obvious choice to me for the second.

Thanks for all your help so far. I have narrowed my choices down to Jabba of custom code. What are peoples experiences with these maps? Has anybody swapped from one to the other? One thing to note is that the phase one custom code is a generic remap whereas jabba is a custom.

I believe Jabba also now offer a generic map.

A custom remap will be done on a rolling road and you should get before and after results.

I'm a bit confused. Is CC1 a generic or custom remap and does the price include time on a rolling road to fine-tune the map?

CC1 is generic...I guess I downloaded via OBD...not sure whether there is any rr time....perhap for an after plot.

I was under the impression CC1 is generic. Just a case of uploading and off you go like REVO, DMS, APR, AmD One-Click.

Yep...that's how I understood it.

No

Phase 1 is a generic remap.

We do not use the rolling road to do the Phase 2 where it is TOTAL Custom.

That is done on the road.

With the Phase 1 being generic we do know the final increase in bhp so we dont do rolling road printouts with it.

But then our rolling road is out of action at the moment.

A good idea might be to see if anyone near you has one of the remaps that you are looking to buy, and ask nicely if you could be taken out in the car.

I have a jabba remap at the moment but come the new year I may change that. Might be worth ask some members about the UP remap

Why are you thinking of changing from your Jabba map?

I'm happy with the performance from mine (generic) but i'm not happy with the smoke

Does anyone know if the Custom Code generic maps cause more smoke than standard?

Ask someone with vag-com nicely to turn your egr valve down/off. Made a huge difference to the smoke output on mine.

i thought the EGR valve was for when the car was cold (lower emmisions) - i had this replaced on my old A4 turbo as the dealers said this is what caused my engine light to come on (charged my

Thanks for all your help. Sarah at JBS has been excellent. It looks like i'm going for a CC phase 1 remap although Jabba claim 10 -15 BHP more from there custom map. I'll report back with my findings
