Is that SD card socket now useless?

Featured Replies

its never going to be an issue, it was also technically illegal before October 2014 and nobody has ever been prosecuted.

The only issue now is the price of a blank CD, SD Card, Hard Drive etc. will likely rise by a couple of quid to keep everyone happy. Blank Cassette tapes have for may years been subject to a small additional charge, as aree the special "Audio CDR" discs required by some home hifi CD Recorders.

The law has gone through but the Parasitic Squids (Record companies) are appealing it.

Even if the gov loses, I doubt anyone will come after you as it is covered by E.U. law; of course if we withdraw from the EU..........

They'd still have to prove some sort of substantive harm before you could be taken to court.

If you're ripping your own CDs that would be nigh on impossible since you've bought already and you're not depriving them of a sale.

I certainly won't stop copying my own disks, I had plenty nicked from cars many years ago and I'll not be leaving any originals lying around again.

Still perfectly legal to rip music you own in the US. Probably via some constitutional right

So I rip my music from CD to my computer, then copy out to my music hard disc for my home hi-fi & then an MP3 copy to my Apple ipad mini & also to SD card for the car.........................so would they spank the hell out of me?.............I'd like to see that in court..................

So for driver safety you can't use the SD card & have to swap original CD's all the time........................bankers the lot of them

As I understand it's only legal if you own the original source (ie CD). If you copy from a mate or sell the CD then you legally need to delete the digital copy.

Although as I understand the same doesn't apply to movies, where ripping isn't legal?

Really can't see a huge amount of prosecutions from this - too much hassle for too little reward.

I think they were just challenging a change in stance from the UK Gov which had stated ripping for personal purposes was ok.

Re-establishing a point of principle that might be useful in the future.
