Cheapest Yeti mod & roof rail question

Featured Replies

Did our first Yeti camping expedition this weekend, do this is the first time I've had the roof box on the car.

And I discovered that the tailgate fouls the roof box.

With this in mind, I blew 90p on 2 meters of 2mm cord at Cotswold Outdoor to stop this happening

Does anyone know what the positioning was of the holes in the original roof rails compared with the later ones? I've got the box as far forward as it will go, but it needs to go a few inches further forward to clear the tailgate (and the aerial) and I was wondering if fitting earlier rails would help.

Used Thule bars myself when I had a Yeti, which were not tied to a given position as with the manufactures set-up.

Also used their Ranger soft box which was a good fit for the roof size.

Someone earlier commented about about a reduction in mounting points, a solution might be to visit a local small engineering company and get them to drill and install some more captive nuts(nutserts) as fitted now at the same spacing, that should not cost the earth nor take hours to do, and be relatively cheap!

...and also sit a bit higher than the OEM bars do.  I also use Thule bars and a Thule Atlantis 200 and it clears the tailgate (I remove the aerial).
