Skoda Octavia SD card slot question

Featured Replies

I have just bought a 2010 Skoda Octavia Elegance TSI and i have a question specifically about the SD card slot.

I have an SD card with music on that the Bolero unit picks up so i know it all works. The issue is that the slot is not holding the card in the slot. If i take my finger off the card it pops out and stops reading it. I am assuming that there must be something that normally would hold the card in place and then releases it when you want to remove it?

Can anyone offer any advice. At the moment all i can think off is some tape to hold the card in place which isnt really a great or attractive solution?

Thanks

David

Firstly - have you tried another SD card?

I know, highly unlikely, but let's rule out the cheapest fix first.

good point and no i havent - will try that and see if that makes any difference

I'm assuming you're pushing it all the way in, until you hear the click, then letting go?  You do have to push it all the way in.

Otherwise sounds like the spring mechanism is broken.

I think it operates using a spring like this:

You'd have to dismantle it to repair it.  Otherwise maybe dismantle and disable the mechanism so card at least slides in a stays there, with a small tab attached to the card to pull it out again.

No idea how easy that would be.

OK i dont have a spare SD card but i have just tried it in a neighbours superb and there is a definite click on his car when the SD card goes in. It looks like the spring mechanism has broken which is tedious and i am not skilled enough to take it all apart etc and fix it.

thanks for your help - guess its a sticky tape solution

Glue a piece of plastic over the top of the slot to hold the card in, but leave small slot to remove a microSD card from an SDcard adaptor which is in the slot?

Or same, but with sticky tape.  You'd then not have to keep unsticking every time you want to remove the card.
