I've had my vRS about 6 months now and had 5000 odd fantastic miles. Tonight however I was just about to pull away from a garage forecourt when I head a ping ping bleep kinda sound and a light on me dashboard lit up. It was a yellow one right in the centre of the display. I wasn't far away from home and I didin't have a clue what this light was telling me, so I decided to 'risk' the trek home. When I got home I got out me manual to discover it reckoned the warning light related to a problem with the lights. Went out and sure enough the passenger rear light wasn't working at all. Now I reckon its probably just a bulb, ny qyuestion is this.....is this likely to covered at all under the warranty ? if not it appears to be a pretty easy diy job ...according to the instructions in the manual....is it ? bearing in mind we are talking about someone here who is not exactly mechanically minded!

I would imagine such consumable items as a lamp wouldn't be covered although I expect your dealer would do it as good will if you drop by and see them.

Not covered. 'Wear n tear' item. Easy to change

Just be careful on the bulb change - it's pretty easy to knock another bulb whilst refitting the holder 'into the car' and break another one.

Got the dealer to do mine after that happened to me - sad I know :P

Take the bulb and have a good look at it before you go to get a replacement. My car uses the more unusual 'offset' pins so a bog standard bulb won't do.

Happened to me it was indeed the blub, 5 min job unless you drop the blub into the engine bay like me then it becomes a hours job

Oh and it would be a good chance to upgrade the blubs

I was certainly scratching my head this evening........went to the Dealership at lunchtime today and got a new bulb. The service guy came out and decided to fit it for me to check everything was ok.

Bulb he had was fitted and still the light didnt come on. On my suggestion he proceeded to take out the bulb of the light that did work to make sure it def wasn't a bulb issue and sure enough that didn't illuminate either.

Car into the workshop job then to trace the electrical fault. Car booked in Monday, much to my disappointment having wasted my lunch hour for no benefit. Anyway, get to the car this evening to go home from work and the illuminated warning light for the bulb error doesn't come on.......hmmmmmm I thought....got out of car and was amazed to see both rear lights illuminated!!! Drove all the way home, went on another short journey and no problems.

Can't explain it but if the light is working tomorrow then I think I will cancel the Monday appointment. Never owned a car before that sorts out its own problems.......

The electronics switch off power to the lamp after it has failed. I tried an led lamp instead of the reversing bulb on my car the other night. it lit up for a couple of seconds and then went out because the current draw was so low it thought the lamp had failed. So put the old bulb back and it didn't work. Then turned off ignition, removed key and then put ignition back on. The electronics reset the lamp monitor and the bulb came back on. Maybe the reset didn't work on your car or the mechanic forgot to turn off/on the ignition after changing the bulb (I doubt that though).
