Hehe.Just read it.

Finishes by saying you can "walk into a dealer and place an order for the 197bhp,149mph Octavia vRS,one of the best all rounders money can buy. It's even faster and better to drive than the Golf GTI"

*Oh,and worth buying for a report on buying a used octavia vRS and Seat leon cupra

Bit of an odd test though. The cars aren't really comparable on cost so they didn't base their selection on that. The golf is 4 wheel drive so that's a bit of an unfair advantage too you'd think. Why did they go for a 1.9 in the Octy and what did the Octy win on? It must have been the DSG and the high spec that did it rather than performance. IMO the 1.9 is a good torquey engine but the 2.0TDi feels a lot quicker than than it in the Octy. I'd imagine it's the same for VW and Seat.

Yeah I'd agree. Funny thing is they ALL VAG group cars. I would have though they'd test the 2.0tdi is all of them. As this is an option available in every model. Mind you when your testing a group of VAG cars in the same market segment all your really testing is the difference in looks.

It was simply a test saying here is the golf but in four different forms.Which is the best option?

The idea of the test was to demonstrate the diversity of platform sharing. 4 cars based on the same VAG A5 platform, 'similar' price and this is what sort of a range you could expect from the four main VAG showrooms. a 1.9 diesel bargain, a luxury 1.6 petrol, a 2.0 tdi 4WD and a 2.0 TDI abomination. :D

The octy won the test as the best iteration of this particular platform for the money, based on equipment levels, interior space and interior build quality.

which car mag?
