Clutch and dmf

Featured Replies

Hi guys

The clutch has started slipping in 5th and 6th gear on my 04 fabia vrs..

I've spoken to my friend who is a mechanic and he has advised me that I will need to replace clutch and the dmf.

He came back to me with a price for parts and labour and it came out at 680£ all in..

So basically I'd like to know if when replacing the clutch do you have to replace the dmf and is £680 reasonable?. Or should I try another avenue?, maybe a second hand clutch and flywheel?

Any help and guidance would be much appreciated

You don't HAVE to, no. But you'd be an absolute fool not to, as it's right there in front of your face if you're changing the clutch, and if it goes, which it will eventually will, all the work will have to be done again, meaning probably another 3 hours labour, where as it only takes 5 minutes to change the flywheel if you're already changing the clutch.

Sounds expensive, especially if he's doing the work at mates rates.

The parts are around £315, and as said, you'd be very short sighted to not replace the DMF at the same time. You should also replace the concentric slave cylinder.

How far is unit 18 from you. If its within a few hours go there. Cheap and excellent work.

i paid 600 for clutch dmf and concentric bearing you dont have to change the flywheel but you might as well while the parts are off saves labour cost next time

Yes that's what I initially thought in regards to the quoted price hence me posting up.. 315 sounds very good is that all that is needed for a straight replacement do I need to get the clutch and flywheel bolts?..

The LuK flywheel comes with the bolts. Listed is everything you need.

I paid £140 labour to my local VAG independent for labour for fitting replacement clutch and DMF.

I put Sachs in but that's only because it was slightly cheaper at the time.

LuK and Sachs are both pretty much the same in terms of quality.
