Skoda Yeti 2012: coming soon from Denmark to UK, or not?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I need to draw on your UK knowledge of the Yeti.

I bought a Skoda Yeti 1.8 in 2012, having read many good reviews about it on BriSkoda.

It was a Danish model: Ambition Plus: with a few useful trimmings etc.

Now the time has come to leave Denmark, and am thinking about the realities of selling it either in Copenhagen or the UK.

What do you think is best?

What are issues regarding import spec changes, tax etc?

It is specced as below, and in very good condition throughout.

(I don't know exactly where the Ambition Plus sits on the E/S/SE/SE Plus/Elegance range: probably about SE/SE Plus.

Car spec:

Make: Skoda (2012): Right hand drive (EUR/DK)
Model: Yeti Ambition TSi 4x4,
Engine: 1.8L petrol, manual 6 gear + reverse
colour: White
Kilometres: c.15000
General: bodywork in very good condition, no bumps or scrapes
interior in very good condition
Extras: Amundsen satellite navigation system
Bluetooth Connection
Cruise control
Skoda Yeti Roof rails with locks (unused-boxed))
set of wheels with winter tyres

Thank you for answering.

Denmark drive on right so assume it's RHD...uuuuuppps he does say so

Edited by DonjSZ5

Because the steering wheel is on the wrong side for the UK market it will be worth less here.

How can some Confuse like post #3.

Denmark is drive on the right.

The UK drive on the Left, the steering wheel is on the Right.

I have still no idea if the car the OP asks about has the Steering wheel on the right. ie RHD

But the OP does say it is.

'Denmark drive on the right so assume it is right hand drive.'  (paraphrasing there.)

When they drive on the right i assume it will be left hand drive,  that is what confused me.

"Danish Model" = Left Hand drive.

Biggest problem with taking it to the UK is that the steering wheel is on the wrong side of the car, and the headlight system is geared to driving on the right side of the road. I do not believe the holiday fix with lamp decals or re-programming xenon lights will meet UK MOT.

Another difficulty is the financial/tax side of things. There is a huge excise tax on vehicles in Denmark, but if you export the car, some of it can be refunded, but it can be a lengthy and beaurocratic process.

Sell it here in DK. Buy another in the UK.

I would sell it in Denmark. Then buy a UK specification vehicle when you get here.

Thanks all for contributions thus far.

To confirm, the wheel that moves the front wheels is on the left hand side of the car.  I did look to see if there was a working definition of exactly what LH or RH drive means.  Half the websites say it is the side of the road the car drives on, the other half the side the driver sits on. Ho hum...maybe European harmonisation would n't be a bad thing after all. At east then we could agree on what left and right hand drive means.

As to the car being RIGHT hand drive; i.e. Euro style; I recall BriSkoda saying that it be attractive to caravan owners who drive on the continent a lot. So they'd be my target market, as the car has serious oomph and quite economical given its size and ability.

Hope this helps clarify matters. Cheers

Peter

If you bring it to the UK to sell, you are targeting a tiny market - those who may want to take it back to the continent. If you sell it in Denmark, you are selling it to anyone in Denmark that wants a Yeti.

Why would you even think of trying to sell a LHD car (driving on the RIGHT side of the road) to a RHD car (driving on the LEFT side of the road) market?

I would have thought it's hard enough getting rid of your old one, for a reasonable price, without that complication.

Agreed. No one on their right mind would buy a left hand drive car unless it wasn't available in right hand drive. With plenty right hand drive yetis available you'd never shift it. Sell before leaving Denmark.

Peter,

In practical terms, your market is limited to buyers in Denmark because of the tax question. Sorry to burst the bubble, but serious caravanners would prefer a diesel, and you do not mention a towing hook in your specifications? It is kinda klutzy and expensive to add on later. There are very few used Yetis on sale in DK, so the pricing is difficult to assess. Most used Yetis for sale are demo vehicles from dealers. Mine is a few years and a lot of miles older ( 2009 and 130,000 km), but a 170 HP diesel with towing hook and Columbus navigation. I looked into replacing it with a new one not long ago, and was offered DKK 168,000 as a trade-in. The dealer expected to sell it for around DKK 210,000.

Hope this helps.
