Front console bushes and rear bump stops

Featured Replies

Couple of advisories at the last service/MoT that I'd like to plan ahead for.

  1. Front console bushes are cracked
  2. Rear bump stops are starting to perish

I gather there are polyurethene versions which are much better. Can anyone recommend a good brand or ones to avoid?

Many thanks

As far as the console bushes are concerned, I'd stick with OEM.

If you want to tighten up the front end a bit then get the Leon Cupra/Audi S3 ones, they are a direct replacement but are solid rubber without the voids the Octavia ones have. They don't affect ride comfort but do make the steering a bit sharper/direct.

If replacing front console's yourself, soak the bolts in freeing lube a few days before, to aid removal. Spray them on the top of the housings.

I buggered one of my bolts as it came half way out and then jammed. No in / no out.

You will need alignment, too.

Super pro bushes are also fine if you want an upgrade

I've got the rubber S3 bushes sans void.  Thumbs up from me.  Febi do a cheap pattern part.  parto 33973

Febi left / OEM Octavia right (disregard the different console housings)

Thanks to all for your comments.

Brad: how do you find the S3 bushes and what model do you have? Mine's not exactly at the sporty end of the range!

Does anyone know (roughly) how much Skoda / an independent would charge for this work?

Mate, I love them.  No increase in NVH.  They are off a 2010 S3.

Steering appears no different until you are punting around a corner & then you realise that you aren't correcting the wheel as much.

I wouldn't call it as dramatic as a remap - just one of those nice "fine-tuning" changes.

Thanks for the comments. I can see there could be a benefit if you've got a 'hotter' version but for my 1.6FSI I think the standard items are probably going to be just fine.

I don't think you need a fast car to benefit from these.  You Brits drive faster than what we are allowed to in "Nanny-State" Australia.

get the Febi 33973.  They are cheaper than the genuine Skoda items.
