Heater will only blow hot or cold, nothing in between

I've owned my 2010 TFSI VRS for about 6 weeks and have noticed that the interior heater will either blow hot or cold with nothing in between. To get anything other that cold I have to turn the temp up to the max. It doesn't matter if the AC is on or off and I can switch between dual and single and still no change. The car is still under the dealers 3 month warranty so I can bring it back for them to look at but it would be good to know what the problem was so I am not going to get fobbed off.

Any ideas?
