Turning down EGR?

Featured Replies

How's it done please?

This is one of only two current faults on the ECU in the engine module - something about an intermittent reading of something or other, which I put down to my EGR blanking off kit.

I thought perhaps if I turned it down electronically the reading of "zero" ( ) might be less likely to generate this fault code.

J - when you've cracked how to turn it down, you can do mine when you are next in the area if you like! ;)

have you tried the search??? :P

You can't turn it down via VAG-COM, just minimize the usage and it's questionable if this will even work correctly on PD engines (regarding by info from the ross-tech site). Anyway adjusting with VAG-COM will not be sufficient to stop generating the code if you have removed EGR physically. There is a fix that will stop the code but requires soldering and couple of diodes in the MAF wires.. If only someone would make a complete kit with right connectors.. :( My solution at the moment is to drive with CEL and check the codes time to time (to check for other codes). If I decide to sell the car I can turn it back to stock and remove the EGR-related code with VAG-COM..

EDIT: the reason I want to keep mine disconnected is that I got noticable performance increase through the range when I removed EGR (don't ask why, but I'm also running tuning box so maybe the extra air helps), adjusting with VAG-COM however had very little effect compared to stock. Also the car pulls waaay better below 2000rpm because this is where the EGR will have most effect..

Have you physically removed it or is it blanked off? If removed, any pictures to show how this is done. I just blanked mine off on my old car.

My EGR is blanked off, although looking at JohnY's car it seemed the whole bit of pipe had been removed and then capped off on top of the turbo/exhaust outlet thingymabob. John - any chance of some pics to show what I mean? :D

Basically removing the vacuum hose from EGR should be enough. However, sometimes the EGR might be leaking exhaust gasses to intake manifold so some people have blocked the EGR tube from exhaust manifold with shims or removed the whole EGR-flap and replaced it with "racepipe". My car is fairly new so just plugging the vacuum hose seemed to do the trick. Anyway now I get error code and you also get this if you fit a racepipe so the MAF-wire fix comes to play here if you don't want to drive with code on..

I don't like the idea of cutting/soldering wires though..
