ESP lights up when cornering

Featured Replies

Hi All, I have had my 2012 Octavia MK2 vRS  diesel estate with DSG for 10 months now. I took it for its first MOT, 2nd service and DSG oil and brake fluid change last week, It failed mot on rear inside tread on o/s tyre being chewed up. Garage said wheels must be out of line so I paid for full alignment and 2 new tyres.

I had a couple of days just going to and from work 14 miles round trip no problems but today I have been on a 230 mile trip and found that every time I go into a corner or bend the esp light on the speedometer is lighting up and the car feels less safe,

The esp button is working i.e. press for 2 seconds traction control switched off message comes on dash press hold again and it says its back on.

The bends can be left or right and as low speed as 30 mph on country lane or 70mph round a 50 mph bend on M5.

I talked briefly to the guy in service dept at Skoda and he says the light is telling me esp is working and the new tyres need scrubbing in but I said well its never been on before and my style of driving or the weather is no different!

reading up a bit I'm now wondering if they have re aligned but not reset the steering angle sensor

Any thoughts or advice very much appreciated

What tyres are they?

New rear tyres are Uniroyal Rainsport 3's Fronts are Vredestein's with 5 to 6 mm on them

It sounds to me like either alignment is out or they removed the steering wheel and re centred it, both will give these symptoms. If you have vcds access you should be able to read your steering angle sensor and it should read zero at the straight ahead position, if it's to far out then the car won't know what's happening as it used steering angle and wheel speeds on each corner to determine what's happening for you TCS to function properly

I have paid for wheel alignment and seen the print outs,

I dont know if they have re set the steering angle sensor but if not yes this will probably be the cause .

I was hoping someone on here would have had the same problem and so could advise

If the tracking was done with the steering wheel/rack not perfectly centralised then your print off would still show as correct. If you have access to vcds then you should be able to read the MVB for the steering angle sensor any more than 15 degrees + or - and you'll get issues and won't be able to re set the sensor
