Saying hello and need some info . .

Featured Replies

Hello all,

My wife and I have a 2000 Octavia Combi TDI, and my purpose for joining this forum is to get some information about the car's headlights. We have recently decamped to France and have had to change the headlight units (hideously expensive). Now that the new units are in we can't see where we are going in the dark because the beams are aimed so low. So does anyone know how to adjust the lights (other than the dashboard wheel adjuster which moves them from a metre in front of the car to two metres)? ;)

There is a plastic screw on top of the headlight unit (if its like the fabia) The one on the top adjusts vertical movement.

Welcome to the site :wavey:

Hope you are not anywhere near Paris at the moment ? :(

Welcome to Briskoda Howard

I'm sure a bright spark will be along to help shortly. Might be worth doing a search or posting in the "Ask A Tech" forum...

Thanks chaps - I think I have found the answer - a screw in the top front valence - but haven't had a chance to look at the car yet as my good lady takes it to work with her. Just hope the adjuster isn't jammed like it is on my Corvette (for Tom vRS's information just over 400bhp and 400ft/lbs after a little fiddling).

Fortunately we don't live anywhere near Clichy-sous-Bois. Ethnic riots are not unheard of in the suburbs - the interior minister is a bit on the unforgiving side - makes the dear departed Mr Blunkett look like a wishy washy bleeding heart - so every now and then when the plod 'accidentally' kill a few low lifes there can be a week or so of evening entertainment for the CRS (riot police).

We live in the Dordogne; there was a crime here last year, someone stole 5 solar garden lights from a neighbour's drive . . .

I think there are two adjuster screws on each headlight...one for up/down and the other for left/right so drive up to a brick wall or similar (about 10 feet away will do on level ground...in the dark) and that way you can see if you are adjusting the right way :D

Not too bothered about left and right - up and down will do just fine. My wife is home from school (she's a teacher, in case you were wondering) this afternoon, so I'll look at the lights then.

Ta very uch for the info.
