Octavia Front brakes locking / grinding when coming to a stop / parking

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, ive got a braking problem with my 2004 (mk1) octavia (1.9 tdi) and its really starting to annoy me

Over the last month when braking at very low speeds (under 5mph) when parking etc my front brakes lock up and make metal to metal grinding noise with the pedal feeling bumpy

Ive also found that it seems to do it more often when i am braking and turning at the same time e.g when turning into my driveway from the main road while braking

I thought it sounded like a problem with the discs / pads or abs so i fitted new mintex discs and pads and 2 new abs sensors and the fault is still there

There is no abs light on in the dash and I had it plugged in and no fault codes are logged. It has never occurred when braking above 5mph, only at very low speeds.

I had the car up on a ramp yesterday and noticed that my rear caliper is leaking fluid internally (ive ordered a new one and waiting on it to arrive). Does anyone think the leak at the rear could be linked to the front brakes locking?

Dont really know where to go next so any help or advice would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks

Thanks for the replies. I noticed that one of my abs rings had seen better days so replaced it and the bearing and the fault is gone. Cheers
