Irritating knocking noise from rear

Featured Replies

My Citigo is just over a year old and for the last few weeks I've noticed a really irritating, but quiet, knocking noise from the rear whenever I'm moving.  It isn't linked to engine speed or braking, so I'm imagining it's a fault with the suspension or something that has worked loose somewhere.

I will be booking it back into the dealer which is a home-from-home - previously it's been in for a squeaky sunroof, dodgy radio reception (three times) and poor braking (twice) - but wondered if anyone else has experienced a similar issue and if so what was the fault/resolution.

And before anyone asks - I've emptied everything out of the boot and checked the spare wheel is stowed securely, so it's not that!

I had the n/s rear panel rattling on mine. I stuffed thick foam behind it and was unnoticeable from the outside. It cured it.

Look underneath and see if the silver heat reflector running down the middle has came loose anywhere. Happened mine and was easily fixed

I can't comment about the other problems but the poor radio reception may be down to the aerial base. I had this on my Yeti and recently my wife had the same problem on her Mii. I could simulate the problem by having the radio on and tapping the aerial resulting in a very pronounced crackle on the radio. This was on AM  but,as I don't use FM, it's probably;y there as well. I suspect that water gets into the base causing a poor connection. I also suspect that it's a known problem as the dealer ordered the parts from my description on both occasions. Expect it to be a fairly long job as the roof lining has to be taken down.

Mine had a knocking from somewhere in the rear. Was bugging me going over speed bumps. Forgot to tell them about it at the service, they must have located it because it's stopped now.

Probably as above loose hear shield

I have just had this resolved by my dealer , Robinsons Norwich. Took 2 visits and one very rude service lady who told me "all suspension squeaks" but turned out both rear shocks needed replacing and the top mount on the rear passenger side was broken. All replaced under warranty. Mine is a 63 plate and I also have the noisy opening sunroof. Hopefully no more suspension noise!

The car is in the dealer now - they tell me that the knocking noise is a suspension issue and both rear shocks and top mounts need replacing!  It's a 14 plate car!  Fortunately it's being done under warranty...
