Citigo only starting intermittently

Featured Replies

2012 citigo, recently I've noticed that if the car stalls (its a driving school car) that the key only turns on 2/3 of the way but not igniting. It happened every 15-20 times but is now so bad that happens 10 times in a row before starts.

I've had change battery before and mechanic said it was being drained but that could be me sat in it with radio on etc. It is it likely to be the starter? The key physically won't turn as far round as it should

Sounds like the ignition barrel. Have you taken it to skoda? Is it not under warranty?

Does it do it with the spare key?

I'd say barrel too. It must get turned a million times in a learner car [emoji57]

Thanks.. Yeah its turned on/off 50 times a day easily

Is it expensive?

Not under warranty as used for driving school

Edit.. Yes happens on both keys

Not sure how much it would cost, worth asking skoda for a quote. I wonder if putting a bit of oil on your key then putting it in the barrel will help? Probably worth googling it first to make sure it doesn't **** anything up

Yes agree. Use silicone based lube and not oil or WD40. Maybe just need this and could save you £££[emoji106]

I don't quite understand what's the problem.

You cannot restart until you turn the key back to zero, and then restart. That's just how it works.

I know how to turn a car off and on. My problem is that it "only turns on 2/3 of the way" not the whole way. It seems to get badly stuck for some reason

does this happen even if you remove the key fully from the ignition and then try?

If that's the case, there's not much to do but drive it to workshop. Oiling may not help at all at that point. Very unusual fault I'd say anyway.

Firstly, it may be an issue with the "safe lock" feature being laggy, preventing restarting. It will have nothing to do with the starter. Oiling a lock only leads to it becoming gummed up in the medium term. Perhaps some dry teflon powder may work, I'm not sure how the safe lock feature acts mechanically.

I have never seen anything in the Skoda warranty to exclude driving school use? Stick it in under warranty.
