It would also seem that the feature i wanted, the speed limits showing on screen is a firmware thing and not a map related issue, im thinking it may be hidden in the background and only accessible from vcds so might be looking for someone with it

Mine displays the speed limit on the road you are using even with version 4 of the maps, however I do not have access to VCDS so I am not able to help you with the question above I'm afraid sorry.

Mine does too, I have v4 maps. I don't have VCDS to check either, sorry.

I've bitten the bullet and ordered a v6 Map Upgrade lets hope it goes as easily as raymundo's, thanks go to him for moving this topic forward for all of us

Always wondered if that would be possible with the Amundsen. Is yours an "Amundsen" or "Amundsen+"? As I was looking to update mine (just says Amundsen on the top) and have no idea whether it's 310 or 315.

Press and hold the settings button and go to the version information

The Part number quoted on the Ebay item posted by Raymundo http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111685582832 is EA Part Number: 3AA 919 866

On my version screen (Amundsen +) is a Parameter "Navigation Data Part Number" which is also 3AA919866 .  That (I hope) confirms that this is the right upgrade.

 

I am currently on Data Version EUR_W_V4.  Just ordered my V6 upgrade...  In the vain hope that V6 will recognise that driving south on the M606 (opened 40? yrs ago) is NOT off-road so it doesn't send me half way around the world to get to the M62.  BTW it does recognise the northbound M606!!!

True - but surely it should know that the M606 is the only good thing that ever came out of Bradford...

Got my Version 6 upgrade for 70 quid or so from the Ebay supplier recommended by Raymundo

Took just over 1 week to arrive from Germany.  Everything about it says this IS a genuine VW part and not a fake/clone.

Installed it today.  Totally painless - reckon it took about 90 minutes though that time was in a parked & locked car!  Left it running and went back 3 times to wake the unit up after it went to sleep.  Process followed exactly the steps Raymundo shows in his photos.

 

All my stored destinations and last destinations were maintained intact BUT although the stored destinations work just fine, when I tried a couple of the last destinations I got "Unable to navigate to that last destination".  So if you have a few last destinations that you intend to re-use it will be best to save them before the upgrade.

 

Done 1 short (10 miles) journey to check it out - it all looks good!

Not loaded mine yet, but agree it all looks pucker, may try running it from the card on my next long run and if all good will load it on the way back.

Go into set-up.  There is an option "Traffic sign display" - have you got it ticked?

Yeah, this is how mine is, and by having that option ticked it gives me the speed limits on screen. Im on V5.

Does it show in the top left corner?

If it does then I've got this and I'm on V4

It doesn't appear on my list. Apparently I have the latest firmware. So the only other option is to look in vcds. So that might be my next purchase

Not suggesting anyone does this, but how do they prevent someone from passing on the update SD card to another person to also update their system ?

Does it wipe the card after you've used it ?

Once used the card locks itself to the unit it was first used in. It's no use to anyone else afterwards.

Completed my update on the way to Norfolk on Saturday, as the others have reported it was very easy and took about 90-minutes, I was very lucky at it had completed by the 1st turn-off for Wymondham and then the traffic on the A11 started to back up so was able to use the Sat-Nav to get to my mates the back way.................result!

 

As in the previous posts your recent journeys can no longer be used and if you go into the Sat Nav menu you can delete them and start again

v6 seems to be on for about £70

I was looking at the maps a couple of days ago. I could only see V6! I'm tempted with this. This is surely the very latest?

From what I've heard, V6 was a big update and well worth it, but for an extra 20 quid seems like 8 is the way to go :-)

am tempted, but held back by the idea that I might be trading in the car during the next 6 months. 

Haha, don't blame you. Tis a lot of money, especially since you can now buy a standalone satnav for that price with lifetime updates :-0

Think I'm on V3 or 4 but still does the job 95% of the time. The plus side of me buying a Tom Tom, I could use it in the boss's car as well

Am also considering using a "map upgrade for me" as a bargaining chip for potential new Fabia (or a Used Roomster) purchase for my wife
