Rear Nearside Pad down to metal and disc warped

Featured Replies

I originally thought it was a bearing away or a sticky caliper. I'm hoping I can open the caliper tomorrow and.change the pads and smooth off disc with a wire brush. Any tips if it turns into a nightmare and say the pad is solid to the disc, or what's left of the pad anyway. Cheers

The pad is probably jammed in the slider. Hammer time.

Cheers buddy, disc seems grand to be honest just a bit red. Surface seems level and smooth so hopefully hammer time lol and pads come off then smooth off disc and bit of copper grease and good to go again.

You will need to clean up the little metal shims which sit between the pad and the carrier really well. Is the inner face of the disc ok? On mine when the pads were sticking they swivelled and contacted mainly towards the centre of the disc leaving a rusty rim which was quite badly pitted.

Seemed ok from a quick glance and feel, suppose I won't know for sure until I get it all off tomorrow, fingers crossed. Will do that pal cheers. I had an old c250 merchant few years ago and same thing happened with pads. Got lucky that day so hopefully same again. Will let you know how it goes tomorrow. Thanks again mate

Thanks Giandougl. Yeah I have a VAG breaker literally a mile away from me. Gonna get the pads off them, less than a tenner and hopefully the discs ok. If not I'll scoot up and get a disc too. Only potential problem I see is getting the piston back in as I have no tools for it nor even a vice. Should be fun :)

Discs are fine, no real damage but I couldn't get the piston to go back to allow enough room for new pads so old pads rite down to metal had to go back in. Fella with the piston tool was supposed to do it for me tonight bit decided to go get his end away instead. Can't get in with a mechanic for a few days so I'll have to limit my journeys. 100 mile round trip up at 0500 tomorrow to work and back. Nightmare.

Hi, VAGMANIAC! You have to remove disc and to set up the brake support back in without new pads and the piston will be pressed in by a big screwdriver easier. Next you have to remove the brake support and  to set up disc.

Be careful letting it run on the metal, my wheel turned orange from the metal shavings. Was a biatch to get clean

Got her sorted. Finally got a tool kit for pushing the piston back in. Piece of ****, like everything I suppose though. If you have the tools you can do the job. Changed back pads on both sideso although only one needed done but all good now :)
