1.9 tdi best ECU Tuning solution?

Featured Replies

Hi I have a Skoda Fabia 2 1.9tdi 105 sport

just wondering what is the best way to have a little more hp out of the ecu?

Either a full remap or a tdi tuning box? W

What are the best tuning solution and any experiences good and bad?

Thanks

Maybe best to ask in the Fabia Mk2 Section.   It will get spotted and replies maybe.

Tumble weed seems to be lowing through this one.

Hello E.Wilson,

I can highly recommend Darkside Developments at Monk Bretton, Barnsley, South Yorkshire, long way from Wales, but they are VW group diesel performance specialists, ie. they just deal with Skoda, Seat, VW and Audi tdi's.  As far as I know, they just do re-mapping, not bolt-on tuning boxes. They do lots of other racy stuff too, exhausts, flywheels, intercoolers, bigger turbos and injectors....

Contact details below in "SPONSORS AND DEALS" section, as also Chris Knott insurance who are OK with my remap!

So I took my elderly Roomster one day for a "health check" inc. rolling road run; as a 105bhp same as yours, it was well loosened-up after nearly 70k miles, and already giving 117bhp. They recommended I remove the aftermarket re-oilable panel air filter, as these are reckoned to pass oil onto the fine wires of the MAF sensor (Mass Air Flow), and simply replace with bog-standard paper element filter.

And as I am already using Millers excellent oil, and fuel additive, nothing else needed doing, so booked in for a whole day for an economy-biased remap.

Remap took 9am till about 2pm (I took an OS Explorer and went walking...), all done, is not much changed up to 2000rpm, then WHOAH!

These Variable-Vane turbos do build boost very smoothly between maybe 1200 and 2000rpm, Darkside's uplift is very gradual over those revs, to ensure no smoke.

MPG is not improved as much as my previous car, a 1.4PD tdi Fabia Mk1 that RS Tuning in Leeds remapped from 75 to 99bhp, but as you'll see from my sig it's not bad for a car that's longer, heavier and more "draggy" aerodynamically than yours. I'd best just say the Roomster's output is now, as Rolls Royce used to say, "sufficient".  Oh, and no black smoke before, and none now!

Have subsequently had the cambelt, waterpump, pulleys, idler, tensioner, auxiliaries belt changed by my local independent garage at 70k miles.

So if you plan to keep the car for a number of years, remap may be a good investment, you probably won't recoup the cost at resale (unless perhaps via Briskoda, and then only if you're a FREEDOM member!)

And you should talk it through with your Insurers BEFORE getting it done, and agree a % power increase limit, then specify that to your remapper. I haven't done any modifications to brakes, clutch etc, as not using the car on track, or driving it like I stole it!

So worth doing? Yes if you plan to keep the car for several years, and if you like to know you've extra OOMPH available under your right foot should you need it, like to catch a ferry, get to Maternity, put a smile on your face,  etc.etc.
