Speed Camera vans

Featured Replies

Coming home from Leicester last night on the A14 towards Kettering, just after the McDonalds/petrol station exit. I was overtaking 2 lorries and lo and behold, sitting in the exit lane of the petrol station was a speed camera van. This was 8 o'clock at night - didn't think they worked at night.

I think I was doing 72mph so not sure if I will be receiving an envelope.

Incidentally, is it legal for them to set up wherever they like because they seem to sit in places you or I would be in the wrong for parking up. Like bus stops, grass banks beside dual carriageways,on flyovers half on path, half on road etc etc. Just interested to know.

Assuming thats a 70 limit an indicated 72 on the speedo will be actually about 67 mph.

As for the parking , they shouldn't do it but they do and it won't invalidate any tickets they issue

72 indicated in my Octavia equates to 68 mph true. I wouldn't start really worrying unless I was clocked exceeding the speed limit by 10% + 2mph - although the police don't have to allow any leeway if they don't want to.
