My 2006 VW Passat 3.2 FSI V6 DSG 4Motion

Featured Replies

quite common, the Mk5 golf also rusted, as do the Audi A4's of that age, mine had it and Audi would only offer to pay 40% to fix it.

VAG aren't as good as people think. Hope you get it sorted, have you thought about approaching watch dog?

  • Found a perfectly fitting sticker a while ago which has now been fitted

  • Ooh a nice man just delivered some more goodies       Got the full set of Powerflex bushes front and rear. Changing the fronts isn't a big job but the rear isn't going to be fun.

  • So this one has been sitting for a long time but today finally finished it up in preparation for a new toy coming soon   The easiest way for us to get the suspension and everything off was to roll

Thank you. I have sent them the information in case they want to run it but not heard anything back yet. All I want is the car to be fixed as it should be so I can carry on enjoying it.

Just spotted this one - a great sleeper.

Really bad about the rust issues though! Didn't think it would be as bad as that and their attitude stinks. Even after an independent assessment has been done?!

Hope you get sorted soon, and Watchdog run it as well. People deserve to know about these issues, and also how VW choose to handle them.

Thank you mate :) absolutely love the car, just need the issues fixed.

Not a great experience so far but hopefully that will change soon. VW are disputing the independent assessment so will just have to see who is right when the time comes.

Dear oh dear that is too scabby for a 2006 car.....and there was me thinking that modern galvanised VAG cars didnt have much of an issue....though am aware Mk5 Golfs tend to suffer with their front wings.

Love the car though....rare and id wager very nice to while away some miles in. Like some of the OEM+ mods youve done too.

Best of luck with the VW legal situation...they really should be paying out to sort it out.

Also went through one of the Passat forums last night and since 2012 there has been 87 reported issues on that site alone.

Got all the paperwork through now so legal case starting shortly.

Best of luck

Unfortunately I can't go into any details but my claim has now been settled.

But onwards and upwards, the Passat will be stripped and the shell scrapped shortly.

I'll be back in a Octavia as a run around shortly until the next car or project arrives :)

Was it so bad the shell is not worth saving? Such a shame it's ended this way.

Yeah, it's pretty rotten unfortunately. It will start causing issues with MOT and I can't just keep throwing money at it.

I think it's disgusting the way VW knows about these issues and yet they'll put their customers through hell before getting anywhere. I know it's not just VW doing this and treating their customers in this way.

Not good buddy - very sad to hear this indeed. :'(

sorry to hear this but probably for the best long term. Are VW disposing of the car?

Sad to hear AJ, hope you managed to put it back to standard before returning it to VW.

No I am. I will be using the engine and running gear in something else at some stage ;)

Indeed, will be stripping the car this weekend and it'll be the shell that's getting scrapped.

Thanks mate, I really enjoyed the car but just can't justify spending more money on it now when I can't guarantee how long it'll last. Pretty poor but getting on with it

Wow. Was not expecting that result!

But as you say - onwards and upwards

Wow really wasn't expecting that outcome about the rust issue. Such a shame for a otherwise very good looking and cared for car.

Hope VW have looked after you

They made everything unnecessarily difficult, gave me hoops to jump through - created some extra hoops, then invented some hoops to jump through as well. Unfortunately for them I just didn't go away. I'm not overly happy as the aim of this was to either get the car repaired (obviously with the extent of some of the corrosion this wasn't possible) or to replace it like for like. I am however glad that I did it, and that it is done and sorted :)

So this one has been sitting for a long time but today finally finished it up in preparation for a new toy coming soon ;)

The easiest way for us to get the suspension and everything off was to roll the car on to its side - was good fun :D

Anyway this is what she looked like underneath;
