Questions from a potential new owner

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm thinking about buying a 2016 Fabia Monte Carlo with 1,2 TSI DSG. TO be honest I'm not a big fan of all the sports bells and whistles on the monte model, but it comes with a sunroof as standard (sunroof alone on the non-monte model costs almost as much as the difference between Style and Monte Carlo), and I really want that :)

Anyway, throughout my research there are a few things I've not been able to find out about what I call "convenience" features of the new Fabia:

  1. Does the 1,2 TSI DSG support engine start/stop? I know some other car brands don't support start/stop on automatic models.
  2. Don't remember what this feature is called, but can the new Fabia be setup to leave headlights on for a period of time after the car is locked, to light up the way for me?
  3. Do the wing mirrors fold in when the car is locked?
  4. Does "Navigation Amundsen 6,5" with DAB +, and Arkamys Sound pack for panorama roof" have CarPlay support?
  5. Speaking of navigation, what about map updates? How does that work on Skodas?
  6. What does the key fob do on Fabia? Lock/unlock? Engine start? Lights on? Open boot?
  7. Does the Fabia have automatic breaking if the front parking sensor is installed?
  8. How is the suspension compared to cars of similar class? I'm thinking about Yaris, Polo, i20, etc.

Thanks.

Welcome to the forum.

I would think you will need to wait until people have the New Monte Carlo before they can comment on how they are,

you will need to go by the current models on ride etc.

Cars in this size and class drive pretty much the same tyre dependent, a Polo is near identical

the others from other makers usually better handling and less crashy, especially to when Skoda call it

Sport Suspension and have Low Profile Tyres fitted for Style over Function.

As to how they are speced in Norway, or Options, are there brochures for the Monte Carlo,

&  is the prices released yet for them in Norway, and any link to them?

As far as I can tell, Monte Carlo only differs very slightly from the Style model

  • Italia aluminium rims (215/45 R16)
  • No height adjustment on front passenger seat
  • No front armrest
  • Panorama roof as standard
  • Sports medals in stainless steel
  • Sports steering wheel
  • Sports seats
  • Sun Set (extra dark rear windows)
  • Monte Carlo logo under the doors
  • Slightly different grill
  • Red accents around the dashboard

The old Monte Carlo was based on the SE spec with just bodywork enhancements and some sports seats and pedals the only difference, I would've thought the new Monte will follow in the same vein.

& Wheels / Tyres & Springs was it not with Mk2 Monte Carlos?

..and those as well which is probably what spoilt the car as it was very crashy over bumps but leaned into corners badly considering it was meant to be 'sports suspension'.

My new estate on 15" alloys rides so much smoother and handles better with less roll even though it's on comfort springs and tyres.

Be aware of regional differences, whats sold in one country doesnt necessarely apply to another as Ive understood from various threads in this fine forum. It seems a descission of the local general agent within limits to spec the models. Probably taking taxation, market circumstances and the blonde blue eyed receptionist in view.

Except from the red details the "Elegance" adding the sport package and glass roof will give you all equipment mentioned above, including front arm rest and adjustable front passenger seat - as sold in Sweden.

?

How do these Skoda Fabia prices compare in Norway to buying a EV or Hybrid car.

Say a Nissan Leaf or Vauxhall Zoe ?

A full-spec Nissan Leaf will cost about the same as a full-spec Monte Carlo with all the extras. The same goes for Renault Zoe. An VW E-Golf is a bit more (5-6k EUR) expensive, but you also get a lot more equipment with it. The range is comparable on all 3 electrics (around 100km in winter, double that in summer), so it comes down to personal preference.

Of course, the real cost savings are not in the cars' prices, but in the incentives from the government. As an owner of an electric vehicle, you don't pay any annual fees, no "city entry fee", you get free charging everywhere, access to bus lanes, free ferries in the country. And electric cars are also exempt from import fees (which are, if memory serves, 33% of car's value + additional fee based on engine size and emissions), so essentially you're getting a higher-class car for a lot less.

Yaris and Auris are popular models, but Toyota are a bit slow to adapt to market trends. As such, Yaris' 1.5L and Auris' 1.8L motors are starting to look dated, especially compared to competition from VAG and PSA which offer comparable fuel consumption and power, but with lower displacement (which directly translated into lower prices, due to our car import fees). Granted, there's still a lot of hybrids on the roads, but I don't know anyone who's bought one recently, or is planning to buy one until Toyota come out with smaller and more efficient engines.

If the Fabia purchase doesn't pan out for me for some reason, E-Golf will be my next stop. Nice as it is to have 500km+ range on a petrol engine, I don't really do much intercity traveling, and if I wanted to, I could live with stopping for half an hour every 200 or km or so to recharge at one of the hundreds of free charging stations across the country.

Cheers,

My family member lives in Oslo and they have a 7 year old now Audi A3 1.6 Petrol and just pays what it costs to run,

which obviously is not cheap.

I think they want a new AWD this year.

1,2 yes

3 only if you push them :) I don't think there's an option for that.

4. Look for the SmartLink option. It may be free or not.

5. There's an update portal (search it on Google for the url), I belive the map updates will be available there (not sure though, but at least some of the updates are available from that place).

6. Depends of the options you choose. You can have full keyless system, where the door opens when you are near the car, or just the engine start / stop button.

7. No, you need a different sensor for that. There is an option that gets you this.

8. I can't compare it with other cars in this class, I've had an A3 with sport suspension before. It is very very soft, I'm not yet sure if I like it or hate it.
