I have just bought the 2004 MK1 Octavia with the original single din stereo (with 6 cd changer in the boot) and below the stereo is the little storage pocket...

 

I am wanting to fit a double din unit in it - do i need a double din cage or does the stereo and storage pocket share a double din cage???

You'll need a double din cage, the dash basically is a double-din sized plastic hole once the pocket has been popped out.

The cage will come with the Double din H/U that you purchase. Removing the single din H/U and lower storage will allow fitment of new H/U. You will also be advised to chop out plastic in the rear of opening once original radio and storage tray are removed. This will make fitment easier
