Vrs brake fluid query

Featured Replies

Hey, I'm gonna be fitting a service kit on my NSF brake calliper on my fabia vrs. I'm wondering if there is a specific grade brake fluid I need to be buying to top the system back up. Thanks in advance folks.

Dot 4 fella.

It says it on the brake fluid reservoir top. Lol.

Are you able to use that race stuff that is a diff colour as long as it's dot 4?

Only if you're near the car. I was just about to look this up myself as I need to order some and I'm in the van tonight.

Dot3, Dot4 & DOT5.1 are all mixable but if you mix DOT5.1 with DOT3 or DOT4 then it should still be regarded as the lower spec fluid.

DOT5 is silicone brake fluid & should not be mixed with the others or there will be tears.  The brake system needs to be flushed (with metho IIRC) before the silicone fluid is used.

If you wish to do it properly, VWs should use a DOT4 Low Viscosity Fluid.  ATE & Pentosin make the right stuff or even get the genuine VW fluid (which isn't overly expensive).
