Wesley's new Octavia vRS

Featured Replies

Hello

I hope I'm doing this right. I have just ordered my new company car which happens to be a brand new old shape VRS Octavia Mk1 (Last of the bunch). I previously had a Laguna 1.9dCi tourer(52 plate) which had expired and I managed to secure one of last Black Vrs's around. I don't think my boss knows anything about the car, and just laughed when I told him what I wanted. A few of my colleagues know about them and can't beleive I'm getting one instead of a normal boring traditional company car. I initially wanted a Mk2 but after checking out the Insurance groups I found the Mk1 is 16, whilst the new mk2 is higher, which really put the stops on it. But I'm more than happy as this is the car I've wanted for over 4 years. It comes Monday 14th November 2005. I just want to find out what I can do to it and more info about the car generally. I hope you guys can help.

Thanks

Wes (UK)

It will really be a personal thing but, I think it's fair to say that you will be pleased with it on the whole. Search the threads for some of the idiosincrysies (SP) and funny little traits of the car.

Enjoy, most of all, the feeling of owning what must be the best value car on the market today.

Welcome to Briskoda. :D The 1.8T engine is very tuneable and you can transform the car's performance for a relatively modest outlay.

Welcome Wes

Good choice of car  Are you getting any optional extras with it?

Its going to be a long wait till the 14th November for you ;)

Unfortunately as I'm not buying the car I'm unable to get extra stuff. And yes the 14th seems ages away, I can't believe how slow the time is going, I can't wait. What bits have you done to your car that aren't major that have improved performance ? And could you tell me how quick this car compared to other cars on the road ?

What would you suggest I do to get an improvement without jeopardising the warranty or insurance ?

That pretty much limits mods to one of those dangly air fresheners and mats. :(

Yeah, Thought so. One last thing, could you tell me if the front seats have the VRS logo embossed on them ? in colour ?

Wes

'VRS' is in the head restraint embossed not colour.

Thanks for your reply.

So far I have only replaced the standard paper filter with a green cotton filter - this helps the car breathe better at the top end and improves the throttle response slightly. I am getting a Blueflame exhaust (full system - down pipe, sports catalyst and back box) fitted in a weeks time which should improve torque across the rev range (as it is less restrictive than the standard system) and improve the currently uninspiring exhaust note.

This car is quick on the road :D When accelerating you can rapidly put distance between you and the car behind (or rapidly close up on the car infront  ) - 2nd gear is best - it will do 70mph before you need to change up

In a straight line it accelerates faster than most 'normal' cars and is great for annoying BMW drivers who hate being overtaken by a Skoda ;):D

It also handles well for a car of its size but it will understeer if pushed hard and may give a bit of lift off oversteer when on the ragged edge.

All in all it is a very good value car that looks the part and has performance to match and is practical as well :)

Thanks for that info.

Still trying to work out how to use site. I'll probably ask you a load more questions when I get it !
