Coolant liquid felicia 1.3 mpi

Featured Replies

Hello,

this is my first post and i hope you can help me.

So i have a felicia 1.3 mpi from 2000 with 90 000 km.

I need to change my coolant liquid and i want to do it my self. My question is how to do it? I also read something that i must "purge the cooling systeme", does i need special tools? To what must i pay attention?

Thank you in advance.

Hi

Actually this is your 2nd post. In first one you asked where is the temperature sensor.

Where are you from?

Do you need a service manual?

Do you feel confident you can clean / purge yourself the cooling system?

I am asking because I need to know how skilled you are.

Here is what might be in a cooling system.

Hi RicardoM,

I'm from France.

I didn't have a service manual but i think it could be help full that's why i think that i will buy the Haynes repaire manual.

I want to change the coolant liquid because the color is more brown (rust ?) and it should be red ( G12 ?), also it must be changed every 2 years.

I never did it before but i think it should be esay ( or maybe it's really hard?)

For changing the coolant liquid i see the operation like that :

- Take off the hose who connect the radiator and the coolant recipient.

- Take off the lowest hose of the radiator.

- Clean the radiator and the recipient with normal water.

- Re-connect the 2 hoses.

- Put new coolant liquid to max level of the recipient ( not close it)

- Start engine.

- the coolant level will fall, so put more coolant untill the level is constant.

that's what i think i must do but there is this "story" about the air pression.

The method described by you doesn't apply to Skoda Felicia. In fact, it is easier to replace the coolant because there is a drain screw in the lowest point of the cooling system (see photo).

With engine cold, do this:

- remove the cap of expansion reservoir

- unscrew the drain screw to empty the cooling system

- when all coolant is out, screw back the drain screw

Next you will have to clean the cooling system. I highly recommend the product below.

The product has detailed instructions, easy to follow.

Next you prepare the coolant (40% antifreeze + 60% distilled water (-25C) or 50/50 for -35C).

Take out the coolant temperature sensor.

Pour coolant into expansion reservoir untill coolant appears in the fitting of the temperature sensor.

Install the temperature sensor.

Run the engine untill the radiator fan kicks in.

Fill the expansion reservoir to the MAX marking.

Squeeze a few times the upper radiator hose to bleed the last air bubbles.

Close expansion reservoir.

Thank you very much for you answer, it will  be very helpful for me.

just a last question: when the fan kicks in, i stop the engine?

Edited by nimbus

It is not critical. I stop the engine after the radiator fan stops turning.

Hi everyone, I wanted to give a feedback from the operation that I did well without a problem.

And the cooling system works great after travelling 800 km, thanks for the help  .

Everyone should flush the cooling system and change the coolant each year, if possible. We have seen this summer 4 cars having corrosion of cylinder head from old, acidic coolant.
