Ive noticed my Mk1 Octavia VRS is using some oil, about 200ml per 200 miles so based on this i will be using 1ltr of oil every 1000mls! Does anyone elses vrs use this much oil?

Ive looked for leaks but cant see any major problems and theres no smoke on startup or boost?

I had a Leon Cupra 180 a few years back which is the same engine (AUQ) and dont remember that using as much.

Not a drop between services - every 5-6k.  :(  96k on the clock

142 on the clock and mine probably uses about 1ltr per 1500-2000 miles. If im spanking it alot it uses more however with steady driving it hardly uses a drop

This comes up quite a lot. The general consensus seems to be there is no pattern to it - some AUQ's use a lot, some don't.

 

In my experience with engines, it often depends upon how the car has been treated from new really, the servicing, the oil spec chosen and the useage. For example, a car that has been used for lots of short journeys from new, never run hard, not allowed to warm up and cool down properly, and poorly serviced with **** oil will use shed-loads.

 

Whereas regular servicing with decent oil, a good warm-up and shut down procedure plus regular caning - getting the engine really hot and using it hard from time to time makes them oil tight inside.

 

Mine (well apart from a few weeks ago when I had a leak from a broken dipstick tube and breather hoses) uses virtually none.

 

It's done 150k, with the last 70k in my posession. The previous long-time owner serviced it well, and did a lot of motorway miles - so the engine was always warmed up well and used fairly hard.

 

In my tenure, observing the procedures I explained, plus changing the oil and filter every 10k with Mobil 1 and a genuine filter, she more or less starts at the top of the dipstick after a change, and ends up at the bottom 10,000 miles later!

My last service was done about 3 months ago with so vw spec oil called Triple QX and there oil filter, previous to that im pretty sure it stayed topped up but ive read this oil is ok to use for the vag engines but  maybe starting to wonder if it ma be a tad thin hence why its using a bit?

Would short trips and cold starts use more oil i dont do much more than 50-60mls a week?

What grade is it?

I use triple QX 5W40 and like i said above it does use a small amount.

Mine doesn't use any between services and never has done
