turbo failure possibly

Featured Replies

Hey guys have a 2009 superb 170bhp

On motorway at 70mph on cruise control the car went into limp home mode .brought it to my local mechanic he put it on his machine which said boost pressure sensor which we replaced but car is still the same he now thinks possible turbo replacement did this happen anyone before ?

When I had boost codes it was the turbo actuator, which seems quite common.

I'd search that.

My turbo actuator has been replaced too at 122k miles.

is this a job for MISTER MUSCLE! ?

Turbo actuator on mine too, limp mode and all that, especially when accelerating from around 60mph to 70mph, replaced for around £250 by a VAG specialist, they diagnosed the problem straight away.

For around that money I'd pay to get it done properly and forget the cheap fixes as the chap who I know at the VAG garage said it all nonsense! the actuator is a common fault and they do at least 1-2 a week across the VAG range of cars!

Just a quick update lads took the turbo off and infaxt it was the actuator which showed up the fault .. and when checkeing over the turbo the trust bearing has worn so will need a rebuild aswell

I too just had this issue, fault code P0229. It said turbo actuator. Just got the turbo replaced. Apparently it comes with the manifold and are not too common over here in the emerald isle.

Just got turbo back after a little refurb the reason ..turbo rebuilder reckoned a carbon build up is what was causing turbo to wear, bascially recommend when have the car running bring it motorway for half an hour put it in 3rd or 4th gear and keep it at 3000rpm so the car gets good and hot and that will burn off any carbon deposits in head and manifold .. he said this should be done once every few weeks ro keep things right

I've heard of 4th gear at 1800 to 2500 revs for the dpf but never heard this for the turbo.

How long would you give a turbo to settle back in

Did he say WHERE the carbon was? odds are it was the VGT section, where all the exhaust gases pass over a variable vane built to fine tolerances, previously (pre-VGT) a turbo was a fairly robust item if fed good oil ...

Once blocked they wont work..

Error codes P132A, P132B  are turbo faults, A is actuator itself, B is its action (VGT not opening/closing)
