Used car warranty - any good?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I'm not sure I'm posting this to the correct place, but I give it a try. As I own a 2.0 TDI PD from the problematic BSS engine group I thought I get a used car warranty to cover a possible oil pump driveshaft/DPF issue for a year until I need to keep the car. Any of you had any experience with these or have a company or package to suggest? Its a 2007 with 108K with FSH (half Skoda, half indy)

Thanks for any advice!

It's all about the small print.

A lot of firms will try to get out of any claim due to wear and tear etc...

They are insurance companies, they earn money by wriggling out of claims.

Remember a warranty is just an insurance, if you don't claim it's lost money.

Sometimes it pays to put the money you would pay to a warranty company each month into a savings account. The money is there if you need it, and it is still there if you don't.

The longer your car goes without needing money spent on it the more protection you buy yourself.

This plan only really falls down if you need to make an expensive repair in the short term.

All down to personal preference. For me the MkI Superb is a well established and well known car, parts are readily available and relatively cheap to source allowing for plenty of options to keep costs down when needing to make repairs.
