Head lift / 150 bolts

Featured Replies

Hi just wondering who has sucssesfuly changed there head bolts doing it one by one as i think my old girl is starting with head lift if i drive it hard coolant can go from max to bringing light on in 2 months or so but if i keep it steady it will take a bit longer .... So am thinging of changing bolts but dont hold much hope of it working doing one at a time ..... Is it worth just waiting for a bit more cash and take head off and do it right .... I dont want to do them one at a time and it not seal right then cook it and warp head ect ect then shes dead really ..... Thanks

Did it on my friends Fabia the other day, cured it.

Change one set once at a time. Was just a precaution before it started to suffer from head lift with fitting s bigger hybrid.

Seems fine anyway, not had any issues.

I had head lift as soon as I went to a hybrid turbo. I put up with it until I bought a GTB turbo. I then fitted the 150 bolts changing them one at a time. I was only running 2 bar at first, so it cured the problem. However... as soon as the boost was upped the problem came back.

My point being in that it should hopefully be ok for you unless you go for a lot more boost on an aftermarket turbo.

I'm in the process of taking my head off at the minute to do it properly with a new gasket :(   I think the blow-by of the gases over time has damaged the seal. Should be fine once cleaned up and re-fitted though :)

Did it to my one about six months ago as using tiny amount of coolant on long runs. Worked a treat and still running fine!

Nice one might give it ago .... Didnt think there would be much chance of it still sealing fine but if its worked on others

I did it on mine before I fitted GTB, never had head lift though with the hybrid and never git any at 2.3bar with GTB.

Have done the bolts one at a time on 4 cars now, works fine.

You will be surprised how loose your standard ones are, then when you fit the 150's you will be surprised how tight you need to do them up on the last angle turn! :)

Was that due to the added pressure relief veins in your head? :P
